Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ANNIE MAY is a 3-year-old spayed female yellow lab. Annie May weighs 48 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
DESCRIPTION We took in 9 dogs from the flooded area of Lumberton NC. There were 2 momma dogs, a daddy dog and 6 of their puppies who are now 3 years old. The pups are all timid and lean on their siblings for comfort and support but are opening up a lot in our care.
Annie May is a yellow female who is friendly but a little shy. She sticks close to Danny Boy and he is her confidence. She thrives on attention. She is pretty good on leash and rides really well. She is good with other dogs. More on Annie May soon.
Update: Annie is still very skittish but is warming up slowly. She eats well. Will sleep upstairs with me now. My daughter has been working with her walking. She does well but is disturbed by lots of traffic. No signs of food aggression, in fact she likes to eat out of the same bowl as my lab. Not much toy interest. Is fine with other dogs. Loves to curl up next to you but you have to lift her up. She is a sweetie that just needs time and love.
Update: Annie May is doing a bit better every day. She loves to sit next to foster mom on the sofa and sort of expects that's just her spot. She is eating well, but still doesn't have any interest in toys. She is a gentle and quiet girl. She's still a bit skittish, but better every day there too. The only time she barks is when the other dogs are playing the backyard, but stops when requested. She would be a wonderful companion for someone who is home and just looking for a companion to dote on. Annie May is easy to love!
Update: Annie May is gaining tiny bits of confidence. This week was the first time she ever slept on her back! She is still skittish but less so. Her foster family had an estimator in the house yesterday and she went up to him for a pat on the head. We are making progress, and this sweet girl is getting sweeter every day!
Update: Annie is still a shy soul. She is not as spooked by things but still startles. She loves being outside and chasing squirrels or birds. She hops and skips around. She walks well on a leash but considers it a recreational activity-she has never done her business while on the leash. She rides well in the car. As for playing, she has not picked up any toys in the house even though there are plenty here. Annie does not really interact with other dogs although she does rest her head on my dogs back sometimes. She loves treats. She has never shown aggression of any kind towards other animals or people. We have a cat but she pretty much ignores it or runs from it.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Setting: Rural, suburban
Dwelling: Single family
Fence: Physical fence required
Annie May is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single-family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
