Lucy in Reno Nevada is 4yrs old 45lb female spayed, I am a sweet, loving 4 year old pure bred red (faded to apricot) standard poodle. My name is Lucy (after Lucille Ball) I need to find a new home because my owner is aging and can lose her balance and fall when trying to get me the exercise I need. I am a dog that needs exercise. You will find me affectionate, loyal, playful and protective and one who would like the same from you. I am well behaved, house and crate trained. I ring my bell that hangs at the patio door whenever I need to go outside. I am smart I know heel and hand commands. I get yummy treats and eagerly go through our training sessions. I love to lounge on my patio bed and gaze at nature in the back yard. Occasionally, a pesky ground squirrel (whom I know my mom doesn’t like) dares to show its face. When I spot it, I bound after it as it scurries away. Fun! I haven’t seen many cats, but I would probably chase them, too! I have lots of toys and can’t always make up my mind which one I want to play with, so I scatter them around the room. I love belly rubs, kisses and snuggling. I love to go on car rides and love to feel the wind on my face. I do bark at pedestrians or dogs, but stop when mom commands me to stop.
I may not be perfect. I do have some behavioral issues that my Mom and I are working with a behaviorist to resolve. I would probably be best as an only dog. I have had housemates at different times and have one now (a younger standard poodle and a Chihuahua). We got along fine for many months, playing and chasing in the snow. For a reason, possibly excitement aggression I had an episode and went after them. It wasnt bad enough to require veterinary care. A UCDavis behavioral specialist has diagnosed me with higher than normal anxiety and Inter-dog aggression (unstable hierarchy) and has me on a daily dose of Fluoxetine. She said I need to feel in control of my environment. I love older children and love to play with them except I don’t like it if they rough house or make loud noises or sudden moves. That is true with big people, too! The front door cause me to be anxious whether someone is there, or my mom opens it to go out. Once the visitor is in, I calm down but it takes awhile for me to warm up to them. I think I can find the perfect new home who is willing to work with my baggage and give me the exercise and stability I need. My current lessons I go for walks on the leash. When I see another dog, I might bark and growl and lunge toward it. My trainer is working with Mom and me using a pinch collar and some behavioral hierarchy training and says I am doing very well. My ideal home might be someone retired or who works from home and is very active and will take me along since I am not used to being home alone all day. Mom leaves the house for appointments or shopping and is often gone for 2-3 hours. Contact ncalsuz @ yahoo.com remove the spaces
