Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our itty bitty Christopher...
Christopher may be tiny but he has the heart of a lion and the determination of a prize fighter. All 9lbs of him. This little boy - only around 1 yr old - had known nothing but abuse and neglect for his first year of life. Not only at the hands of strangers - but of his very own family.
He was purposefully starved. Left outdoors - not even in an enclosed yard - but to the streets, where he was kicked and beaten by the neighborhood children. He came to us utterly broken and defeated. He was skin and bones - and was petrified of everyone. Common things like a bed or toys were foreign to him. He had to learn how to enjoy simple everyday things. Food, treats, belly rubs, compassion, love - all things that should be normal, no-big-deal everyday occurrences were all first time experiences to this boy.
As always, with the unending and limitless patience and understanding from his foster mom, Christina Decamp, he slowly learned it all and he loved it all. He started to trust - although it still is a work in progress for him. (Strangers = suffering). He learned to play, to sleep in a dog bed, to interact with and trust other dogs. He gained weight and became healthy. Most importantly, he learned to open his heart and love. Humans failed him....and yet he is willing to still love us. What a remarkable being, he is.
As a result of the torment he endured, he is petrified of children. And also he is extremely timid when meeting new people. His new family will need to be patient with him, understanding that his trust will need to be earned since his trust was betrayed horribly by the very people who were suppose to love and care for him. Multiple meet and greets will be needed to make both his new family and him feel more comfortable. Trust me - he is worth it.
The most optimal family for him? I'm thinking a retired couple - or even just a low key family. Of course, no kids. Like I said, he is great with other dogs but unknown to cats.
Adoption fee $400 and includes health exam, deworming, up to date vaccines, bloodwork, microchip, neuter, and 30 days of free pet health insurance.
He is worth the time. He is worth the journey it will take to get him to his new family. He is worth more than what his horrid family did to him. He is worth it all. Because, once his trust is earned, he will love u with the heart of a lion and with the determination of a prize fighter. All 9 lbs of him. <3
