My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Edith qualifies for our “Seniors For Seniors” program!!

What’s her name? Edith

How old is she? 11 years old

How much does she weigh? 18 pounds (should be 14 but TREATS)

What does she look like? Edith is blonde with short hair, a white muzzle and floppy ears. She is a glorious Puggle.

What does she like to eat? She eats Natural Balance Limited Ingredient High Protein Lamb kibble. She loves treats and is VERY food motivated but her foster mom is trying to help her lose weight.

Perfect Day? Waking up and eating breakfast. Going on walks and being outside. She would love to go for a morning walk and then come home and be lazy or cuddle with her foster family. She also loves, loves, loves car rides and will give you a guilt trip if you don’t take her out often. It’s a very effective guilt trip.

Favorite Toy? She is hilarious and very playful and loves soft stuffed toys. Sometimes she grabs them with her mouth and throws them up in the air. She also loves bully sticks!!!!

Tricks? No tricks for this old gal, just treats please!!!

Where does she sleep? At night she sleeps in her foster mom’s room on her bed. She likes blankets and buries her head in them. She likes to be covered up so her foster mom tucks her in. During the day, she has a bed out in the living room. Sometimes her foster mom lifts her on the couch and she snoozes with her friend Tom the Chihuahua.

Walking on a leash? She loves walking on a leash. She drags her back legs a little but that doesn’t slow her down.

What scares you? Nothing….but I do bark at fireworks.

Children? She absolutely loves children!!!!

Other Dogs? She loves other dogs! Verbally, she’s a bit of a weirdo, loves to alert when she sees other dogs (typical beagle) but she has a TON of dog buddies and when properly introduced, is great around dogs.

Cats? She will chase cats if they’re in the yard but in the house, she actually does really well with them. She’ll try to say hi but if they hiss, she’ll respect the boundary.

Not so great habits? It’s really unfair to call this a habit but Edith has a spinal cord injury. It is believed that she may have been hit by a car at some point in her life. As a result, she is 20% incontinent. What that means is that sometimes she can’t quite make it out the door before she has to go potty. She also has accidents when she gets overly excited, (i.e., when her foster mom is putting on her leash to go out because walks are FUN).

We’re working on feeding her early so she doesn’t have accidents in her bed at night but her foster mom can’t always get home from work early so sometimes it still happens.

She is very vocal when there’s another dog in the house but when there’s not, she is surprisingly quiet.

House trained? Edith is actually potty trained and makes every attempt to get to the door. Her success with having as few accidents as possible will depend on how easily she can get outside when she has to go (i.e., taking her down a flight of stairs is not ideal). The vet recommended that we express her bladder which has actually helped reduce accidents in the house quite a bit.

How is her health? Her health is great! She’s a little on the chubby side but we are working on that. Because of her spinal cord injury, she drags her back feet a little. Her back legs are stiff and don’t bend very well so she needs to be lifted upstairs. Also, she sometimes cannot fully empty her bladder so her foster mom expresses it.

What does she love about her foster family? She is madly in love with her 8 year old foster sister and all of the friends that come over. Her foster mom lifts her on the couch every morning so she can snuggle with her foster sister before she gets ready for school. She loves car rides and walks.

Life before NorCal? We suspect Edith was loved very much. We have no idea how Edith ended up in the shelter but a dog with mild incontinence issues has almost no chance of being adopted out of a shelter so we had to save her.

**************************

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue (NBBR) is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread throughout the Sacramento area. We require our adopters to be within a 50 mile radius of us.
This is because we need to do a physical yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is safe and secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed.
(*FaceTime or Skype are NOT acceptable methods of communication regarding yard checks.)

We HAVE made exceptions for dogs that have been with us long term, and for senior dogs. We would still need to perform a yard check, and would be happy to do so for a dog that has been passed over repeatedly, but not for dogs that are in high demand.

That said, it must be a neighboring state to California. NOT across the country. That would be too much. (*We will NOT be making this exception for puppies or designer breed dogs, so please don’t ask. It’s way too much for us to have to request time off of work and lose pay to drive a dog out of area when we have plenty of great homes in our area wanting to adopt these dogs.)

We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks.

Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog.

Our adoption fees are based on the dog and typically range from $200-$500. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary). In the case of designer breed dogs, like French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs, the adoption fee will be significantly higher in order to offset the costs associated with their surgeries, or associated with their demand.

Edith's ADOPTION DONATION IS $200 or waived for approved adopters 55 years of age or older.

Interested in meeting this dog or another one of our available dogs? Simply complete and submit our adoption application on our website norcalbullybreedrescue.com (FROM YOUR HOME COMPUTER, not cell phones, yet! We’re working on that!!) and we will respond to you within 3-5 days. Once a yard check is completed and you’ve passed the adoption process, you’re welcome to meet any of our dogs!!!

Thanks so much for your interest, and we hope we are able to match you up with your next family member!!! Looking forward to your application!!!
