My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Brody!!

Brody is a super sweet Australian Shepherd, about 2 years old and a whopping 75 pounds, but that’s down from 86 pounds when he came into the rescue! He is a Double Merle (DM), which means he was the result of breeding two merle Aussies, which is not a good idea and usually results in dogs with vision and hearing issues. Brody is deaf and has some vision deficits in one eye, but that doesn’t slow him down one bit.

He loves long walks around the block. He likes riding in the car but needs help to learn how to get in on his own since he’s too big to lift and hasn’t learned that yet because of the hip issues he had. He is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and on flea/tick and heartworm preventative.

Brody was an owner surrender to a shelter in December 2017, and has been with Australian Shepherds Furever since then getting healthy.

As you can tell from his size, he’s never met a meal he didn’t like. He loves to eat! In fact, he loves food so much that he’s on a diet and needs to lose some more weight to get back his boyish figure and put less strain on his hips. He had bilateral hip replacement surgery for hip dysplasia a few months ago, and is recovering nicely from that.

He eats in his crate, and it’s best to ration his food because he loves it so much. He would eat the whole bag if you let him! He will also eat everyone else’s groceries if you leave them out where he can get to them, so feeding him separate from other dogs is a good plan. Keeping his weight down will help put less stress on his hips.

Brody is a big teddy bear who loves everyone he meets! He loves balls, giving kisses and other dogs, especially his foster siblings! He likes children and plays with the neighborhood kids, but would be best in a home with older children due to his size and the possibility of knocking over small children without meaning to. He also needs to learn how to gently take treats or food from your hand, as he tends to grab for it with his mouth because he loves food so much, and he sometimes gets your fingers on accident, which wouldn’t be good for small children.

Brody likes being inside where all of the action is, so he doesn’t much like being left alone outside. He will bark to be let back inside with his people. He is very smart and would definitely be able to learn sign language. In one of his foster homes, he was taught sit and down with sign language.

He does well with being bathed once he realizes what you are up to with him in the bathtub, and loves to be brushed. He is completely housebroken, and he doesn’t chew up anything that he’s not supposed to chew on, so he’s past the puppy stage.

Brody is being fostered in Iowa Park, Texas and is eagerly waiting to meet his forever family. He truly deserves the best home with a family to love him as much as he’ll love them back.
