My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

No Phone Calls, please fill out an adoption application to be approved and send it back to us by email. Charley is in a foster home and doing well. He needs a home where he can be the only dog with an alpha owner who will work with him.

THIS IS CHARLEY'S LAST CHANCE TO FIND A FOREVER HOME. He is a biter and has a past of people saying they will work with him and not give up on him, but he has had several homes and each time has been returned. We took a chance and got him from a SC shelter telling them that he deserves to have a home. Unfortunately, it hasn't been easy to find him a home. He is a good boy 99 percent of the time and can be a good house dog in an adult dog savvy home with no children or grand children who will visit. But, one percent of the time he can act out like a case of Jeckel and Hide and will turn on you (bite) if he doesn't trust you.
We recently adopted him out to someone who said they would work with him, had dealt with dog issues like this one in their home before and would go the extra mile to help him keep a home. We were careful with our placement and It seemed to be working. Not hearing anything, no news was good news, so apparently he had learned to trust her and we thought things were working out. Then out of the blue, a call came in from this adopter telling us that Charley needed to be returned because he bit the husband. We had warned her that she must diligently work with him and follow our suggestions to help Charley keep this home. This said, we feel that this dog deserves one last chance before we return him to the SC shelter where he will indeed live out his life because no one stepped up to help him keep a home. He needs an owner who completely understands that he needs to be worked with and you must deal with a trainer to help prevent the biting issues. He can be a good boy most of the time, but if no home is found that we feel is a good placement for him to have a good life, then we will be returning him to SC to live a very sad shelter life of no one wanting him or willing to go the extra mile to give him that slim chance to have a home. A fenced yard is highly suggested as he is strong on a leash.

My name is Charley and life for me has not gone so well on finding a forever home. I am a tri-colored cocker spaniel boy with a bit of a mix in me. I am a high energy dog about 3 years old. I appear to be mostly cocker so not really sure what else I am mixed with as I weigh about 46 pounds. Life for me has been a rocky beginning as a youngster growing up. I have had several homes with no real chance to settle in and be happy. I was turned into a SC shelter at an early age, adopted out, turned back into the shelter and then adopted to an older couple. I was doing well with them, my only problem was that they had grandkids and I did not feel comfortable around them, they would make me scared, nervous and sometimes I would nip or bite at them.

I am heartworm negative and healthy. I am very strong on a leash and I do not like anyone messing with my feet. If you try to crate me I will be a little hesitant, but I will go in on my own. Due to my unstable past, these rescue folks feel that I need to be in an adult only home with no kids and no young grandchildren who might visit. I will need an owner who is willing to work with a trainer who can help me to overcome the issues I have that need to be tweaked for the better. In my past homes, maybe they got a bit frustrated at my overly active, bubbly, tail wagging behavior. If you are willing to give me a chance and won't give up on me, I would love to find my new home and be your indoor companion and a best friend. I need a calm, loving home environment with a dedicated dog savvy owner with no children or grandkids. Someone who will go the extra mile for me and not give up on me, take me to a trainer and work with me because I deserve a good life with an owner who cares enough to help me become a better companion. Please give me the chance that I deserve to be loved, wanted by someone who will appreciate me, work with me and care about me for the cocker boy that I am.

My adoption fee is: $350.

If you are interested in adopting this nice cocker boy, please send an email to: larrydonnacarp@aol.com for an adoption application. Our adoption fee helps to cover some of the costs for this cocker's care while at our rescue.
