Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Hero is currently being fostered in Houston – meaning meeting his prior to his adoption will not be possible. His adoption donation is $500USD – this includes his transport home and he has been fully vetted. Because transport is so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. **
Hero came to us one day when he came running out of a 70 acre wooded lot dragging a 6 foot chain. We aren’t sure where he came from, but it wasn’t great, so we promised him a life upgrade!
Hero is a roughly 5-month old Dane/Hound Mix. He is a good sized boy and we think he’ll be in the 65-70 pound range when he is done growing. Hero is an active boy who loves to run and play, but he’s fully of dopey puppy love so he also loves to snuggle with his foster family. He is a med-high energy dog, so his adoptive family should be prepared to provide him plenty of exercise and proper socialization. His favorite activities include going on walks, lay in the sun, play with his dog friends, and hang out with his foster family.
Hero currently lives with other dogs of all sizes (8 pounds through 80) and does great with them! He would be great as a solo dog or as a member of a new pack – he has never met a dog he doesn’t love. He has not been tested with cats, but given his general disposition, we think he’d be fine with a kitty sibling if given a proper introduction.
Hero has met and done great with kids and would make a great buddy for some kids who have been taught to be respectful of animals to grow up with. He loves to swim and play with kids!
Hero is house and kennel trained, but he’s still young and could have some accidents as he transitions into his new forever family. He is working hard on his leash manners but is still a pup and this is a work-in-progress. Although he is an older pup, it’s important to remember that he spent most of his puppyhood on the streets, so he may need a little leeway as he acclimates into his new family and schedule.
The best suited family will be one that understands that dogs can take time to acclimate to their new homes - which will likely include having accidents, crying in their kennel, and chewing on things they are not supposed to. Hero will be best suited for a family that can provide him with patience and positive reinforcement as he grows.
We expect our dogs to be adopted by families who plan to keep them as indoor pets and part of the family. We do not adopt to families who plan to keep dogs outside for an extended period of time, for example the entire workday.
Hero is fully vetted and healthy. He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. He does not have any health or allergy issues that we are aware of.
