Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! My name is Merida and I am looking for a family of my own to love. I was hoping you would take some time to get to know me and see if we might be the perfect match! I am a smart and attentive 2-year old American Staffordshire Terrier/Rottweiler/Boxer mix. My favorite activities include cuddling with my humans, water adventures, sleeping during car rides, and terrorizing cats.
You might be wondering how I came to live with my foster family at the Miss Gabriel Foundation. When I was just eight weeks old, I was rescued from a hoarding situation in California with my seven siblings. We were underweight and sick, and needed to be put on antibiotics right away. My body was covered in bite wounds and I had scars on my face and underbelly. My most severe injury was my broken jaw; thankfully it ended up healing with no long-term negative effects.
Despite everything I went through, I love spending my time with humans. I easily make friends with both men and women and do well with volunteers. Even though I like children, I may be too energetic or rough for the younger ones. I am very playful and enjoy sharing my toys with humans. There is so much fun to be had with squeaky toys and Nyla bones!
While I may be sweet and social with humans, dogs are a bit of a different story. I have been known to ignore new dogs; however, if they get in my face, I will warn them to back off by showing them my teeth. They usually get the hint! With a proper introduction I would do well with a balanced and polite dog, but if a dog is rude or hyper, I will react negatively toward them.
I am a very good girl inside the house and do well when left home alone. However, I take my outside time very seriously and might bark, pace, or scratch at the door when I am ready for some fresh air. Once outside I enjoy the occasional sunbath, but really, it’s a place for me to express my curiosity.
I am allergic to chicken and I'm required to be on a diet with limited or no grain foods while also avoiding beef. I am an otherwise happy and healthy girl! Historically, black dogs, especially black pitbulls, have been hard to adopt. I am a devoted pup who wants nothing more than a family of my own to create memories with. If you think we would make a good match please fill out an application for adoption. I look forward to meeting you!
