My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Saki is 8 years old and a too chubby 16.5 pounds. Saki is a Shih Tzu/Yorkie Mix, a little Shorkie. She is being fostered in Orlando, FL.

UPDATED BIO 09/04/2018: Hi again, Saki here. Let me tell you what's been going on since you last heard from me. On August 13th, I saw a new dogtor to see if she could remove my bad eye. She said she could and BAM – the very next day my bad eye was removed. She also spayed me and cleaned my teeth. I am all healed now and I feel wonderful. I am much more playful, too, since my hurty eye is gone. I’ve been losing weight, and the nice vet told me that my perfect weight would be 12 pounds, so more power walking for me is in my future!

On the not-so-good side, my primary dogtor discovered that I have hypothyroidism and Cushing's Disease. I have to take medicine to control both of these for the rest of my life. The thing is, the medicine I need is expensive and will cost about $60 per month. I will also need blood tests every six months that will cost between $150-$250. I know it will cost a lot to keep me feeling good for the rest of my life, but I am sooo worth it.

I'm the sweetest girl you will ever meet. I love everyone and I am well-behaved and smart, too. I am house-trained and will also use a pee-pee-pad if it is raining outside or I am left alone for several hours. I like all people, including children (over the age of 5 years old) and other dogs.

Please don’t turn away from me because I have only one eye and have several medical conditions. My former owners did that and that is how I ended up at the shelter. I’m so grateful that the really nice people at UYR rescued me and made me feel better. You won’t regret giving me a chance at happiness with a new furever home. I have a lot of love to give.

UPDATED BIO 08/05/2018: Saki here. I've been with my Foster Mom for about 5 weeks and she knows much more about me now that I have seen the vet and the doggie ophthalmologist. We’ve been very busy going to several vets since I had a few issues going on.

I am a beautiful, blond Shorkie Zu. I have already lost about 1 pound since I’ve been in my foster home but should lose maybe a couple more to be a much healthier weight. Foster Mom feeds me good food that helps me manage my weight. It seems to be working. It's a little easier for me to go for walks now. I still love car rides and playing with my toys. I am house- trained and know how to use a pee-pee pad. I'm so smart. I like all people, including children (over the age of 5 years old) and other dogs.

My foster mom took me to the eye specialist recently because my left eye was bulging and it is not good news. The dogtor confirmed that I was blind in that eye. He said I have Glaucoma (whatever that is), in both eyes, but the left eye was way worse. The pressure in my eye was so high that it caused my eye to swell up and rupture. All I know is that it hurts really bad. The bottom line is that I have to have that eye removed. Oh, no! My foster mom told me not to worry though, I'll feel much better and I'll still be beautiful. I believe her.

Before I could have surgery to remove my eye, I had to have more blood tests. My regular vet who is very, very nice, discovered that I have both Hypothyroid Disease and Cushing’s Disease. That really stinks. I will need to take medicine for the rest of my life, but that’s okay. I don’t mind it. On top of all this, I still need to be spayed and have a dental cleaning. My mouth really hurts and I can only eat soft food. I really miss my crunchy food.

So, it looks like I will need several surgeries before I am ready for my forever home. Foster mom said that I may be ready to be adopted sometime in September.

All this surgery and tests are going to cost a lot of money, but I am so worth it. I am so thankful to the wonderful humans at UYR for helping me, but they cannot do it alone. They need you to help pay for my mounting vet fees. Would you please help me?

Please wait for me, I’m so worth it.
