Meet Zeus! This handsome hound was rescued from the streets somewhere in Dallas. We really don't know a whole lot about his backstory, but we do know that he had to fend for himself for a while, as he was quite trash friendly at first. Thankfully he has accepted life indoors and is a happy, healthy, indoor pup looking for a home all his own.
Zeus is a BIG guy, weighing in last time at around 120 lbs! We believe him to be a Newfoundland/German Shepherd mix due to his mannerisms and personality! This guy is all about his people, and is very much the epitome of his breeds. His favorite things to do are lay at your feet, put his head in your lap for ear scratches or paw at you until you pet him. Every morning when he wakes up he wants to be pet before he can even go out to pee so this boy is a HUGE LOVER HOUND. So much so that he can be pushy about it! He is protective of his home and property and likes to patrol and make sure everything is safe and sound, and will bark at cars should they pass by, but he is all bark, NO bite.. He will come when called and warms up to people quickly, especially if they have a ball or treat to offer him as a sign of friendship!
He loves to play and enjoys a good game of fetch with all of his favorite toys like the jolly teaser ball and kong ball. He does well with returning, though sometimes if he is tired you have to ask him, otherwise he will take it all the way to a shady spot and sit happily with it between his feet and chewing it. He is excellent at recall and does well once he bonds with you to follow your lead when given. He really loves his chews too, and is more then content to be in his kennel when your not around, chewing on his bone and cuddling his blanket. He enjoys being outdoors but has come to love being inside as well. He loves a big comfy bed that he can rest on when he is tired, and enjoys being in his kennel when it's time to eat!
Zeus gets along fine with almost all dogs, he greets well and has only met less then a handful of pups he didn't get along with, usually through no fault of his but rather theirs. He is a BIG guy, so it can understandably be a little intimidating to them! He especially loves his female friends but you can find him rough housing with his fellow boys from time to time, all in good fun! He originally did not get along with cats as he was not socialized. He has spent the last 2 years with us in foster and become more accustomed to them. Though they still excite them, if they are dog savvy and grown up around dogs he should be totally fine as long as he is watched. Zeus prefers the quieter side of life so a home with older children is preferred but with the right family any family can be the right fit for this big guy! We really want someone who knows Newfoundlands and German Shepherds for these reasons!
Zeus does well with training and aims to please, and all forms of motivation work for him including toys, treats and affection. He knows basic commands such as sit, shake, settle, stay and he is also crate trained and leash trained. His favorite command is to give paw, but if your looking for it he will jump and give you a big ole bear hug!
Zeus is fully vetted meaning he is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. He is also microchipped as well. For more information on how to adopt Zeus, please contact us at MokasMission@Gmail.com
