Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Digit is a 9 year old Shih Tzu who was found as a stray in Southern Iowa and was in urgent need of medical care. He was brought right to the emergency vet under the care of Critter Crusaders. Digit was severely dehydrated, matted, starving and showed signs of terrible neglect. It took some time to get Digit healthy. He’s been looked over from head to tail including bloodwork and radiographs. Those scary days are behind him now and he's now ready to find a loving home that will continue to help him thrive.
Digit has been examined by an ophthalmologist. He has no vision and it is unknown if this is from birth or happened sometime later. One of his eyes is not developed. Digit’s keen sense of hearing helps him navigate his surroundings and he will listen for the voices of his humans and follow along. He is also missing quite a few teeth, but eats canned food well.
This adorable little guy weighs about 8 pounds, but his personality is BIG. He's a lap dog who loves to be held or carried. He's also content on his bed with his blanket and stuffed toys. He can sit up on his hind legs and has a cute way of playing. He is housebroken and has only had a couple accidents while in foster care.
Digit rides nicely in the car and enjoys short walks. He does very well with people and loves to roll over to have his tummy rubbed. Digit does well with other dogs and would probably enjoy another small dog in his home. His forever home should not have large dogs or small children.
While he takes a bath nicely, attempts at grooming his face (or examination of his face) don't go so well and he becomes quite agitated and vocal. It's probable that sedation will be needed to accomplish these, at least for some time. Adopters will need to be willing to work with him on this behavior.
Lastly, you might wonder how he got his name. The ER Vets dubbed him Digit- because he has 3 toes on each foot. It makes him very special and unique. Whether you chose to call him Digit, or pick another special name, he only wishes for a wonderful home of his very own.
Digit is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
