Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This sweetheart is little Rosa. She is 10 years old and weighs about 9 pounds. She is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
UPDATED BIO 10/11/2018: Rosa here - my foster mom says I’m a little sweetheart and she doesn’t know why I haven’t found my furever family yet. I behave myself like a little lady, I love to play with my toys, I get along with other dogs and I no longer bark at our kitty cat.
I would be much happier if I was the only dog, so I can get all the attention. Foster mom also says that I’m healthy, all except for my eye condition (dry eye). I need eye drops 2x a day for this – that’s easy peasy! Because my eye condition went untreated for too long, my right eye has shrunk a little bit, but I can still see out of it.
I like to follow my foster mom around the house and when she’s chilling in her chair, I love to hang out with her. If you think I might be the girl for you, please fill out an application for me. You won’t be sorry since I will be your loyal and loving companion for the rest of my life! UPDATED BIO 08/27/2018: Hi everybody - Rosa here. Boy-oh-boy do I have some really great news!! As you probably know, I had major surgery to remove a whole bunch of ugly tumors that were so big, they took up most of my chest. I also got fixed (spayed) at the same time Goodness, I didn’t even know I was broken, so I have had a lot of healing to do. That’s the great news. I’m all healed up from my surgeries and I’m ready to go to my furever home - like now!!
My foster mom calls me “Rosa - the Warrior Princess” because she says I was so brave going through everything that I must be a warrior. She tells everyone what a great dog I am and how easy I am to love. I will come when called. I play catch with my toys and I chase her all over the house when she’s wearing her slippers. Everyone says I am around 10 years old, but my mom says I act like a much, much younger dog.
When I have to take my medicine, she says I’m so good that she barely has to do anything. I have to get eye drops in both of my eyes twice a day, and not only am I good about it, I even tilt my head for her. You see, I have something called “dry eye” which means that I don’t produce my own tears. But this medicine I get helps stimulate my eyes to make tears again. Because I’ve had this for a while without getting the right eye medications, my right eye doesn’t look as good as my left eye, but I can still see with both eyes.
Foster Mom says I get along with everyone, even the kitty cat, even though I had never seen one before I came here. I was a little scared at first, but now I know she won’t hurt me so I leave her alone. If you’re looking for a lap dog, then I’m your girl. If you think you would want me to furever be your girl, then fill out an application and we’ll see if we’re a match.
UPDATED BIO 07/06/2018: "Awesomeness!” We just found out that our sweet little Warrior Princess Rosas’s three mammary tumors are benign (not cancer), and she is dancing to the news!! Well, not really dancing, since she’s on restricted activity still, but Foster Mom and Dad are dancing to the news for sure! It took a month for Rosa to gain the strength for her B-I-G surgery, but just a week ago Rosa was strong enough to be spayed, have her tumors removed and she will soon get a much-needed dental. After recuperation from all this, she will be so ready for adoption to her furever family.
Sweet Rosa has come a long way from running the streets alone, then landing in a high-kill shelter and facing the unthinkable fate that was ahead of her. Now our sweet little Rosa is loving her new life. She follows Foster Mom all around the house. She gives hugs and kisses galore, loves to play with her squeaky toy and is pure joy to have near you.
Rosa doesn’t seem to have any bad habits that Foster Mom has seen. She comes when she is called, she lets Foster Mom do anything to her (eye drops, ear drops, wound cleaning, etc.) without so much as a peep out of her. She gets along great with other dogs and has quickly become okay with her kitty sister. So much so, that kitty was seen rubbing up against Rosa and Rosa was content with that.
Rosa likes to sleep with her humans and also loves to be on the sofa with her Foster Mom, but would gladly sit on your lap for a spell if you call her. She walks well on a leash, ignores passing dogs, and is truly an almost-perfect doggie companion. Her foster parents are working on house-training, and believe she could be trained fairly easily as long as someone is home and can take her out on a schedule.
PLEASE NOTE: Rosa has a sweet and loving personality, but her Foster Mom believes that she should not go into a home with children under the age of 14.
Rosa’s story is exactly why United Yorkie Rescue exists. For 16 years, UYR has been able to rescue dogs like Rosa in dire straits, sometimes just hours away from euthanasia (like Rosa), and completely turn their lives around. It’s only because of our generous and cherished donors and foster parents that we can continue to do this for these sweet babies, and they all deserve a second chance in their lives.
But we can’t keep saving these beautiful furbabies without your help. To date, Rosa’s medical expenses are over $1,600 and we’ve only raised $54 in donations. There are so many other little needy dogs like Rosa out there that need to be rescued, which is where you come in. Won’t you please consider donating to Rosa’s medical care so that we can help the next furbaby that needs us?
If you find it in your heart to do so, click on the PayPal Donate link underneath Rosa’s bio to help us not only with Rosa’s on-going medical care, but also to help us rescue other little needy yorkies. Any amount is appreciated and every penny donated goes directly to medical expenses for our foster dogs. UYR has no paid staff and our volunteers/foster parents are paid in puppy kisses, tail wags and Happy Tails stories – this selfless sacrifice is so worth these precious blessings.
And, if you're thinking about fostering, fill out a Volunteer/Foster application. " It's so rewarding to turn these guys and gals around and match them with their perfect family."
