Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Thank you for your interest in adopting .All of our orphans are located in East Tennessee . Adoption information can be found on our website www.southernrootsrescue.org
Info below provided by Scooby foster mom:
Behavior: Scooby gets along well with all my dogs, including my older female who can be dog reactive. He loves to be with other dogs and loves to play, especially with our two-year-old golden. Scooby also is very smart, confident and learns quickly. If he can figure out what you want, he will do it. He takes his cues from other dogs. We have a bell on our door to the deck that our dogs ring if they want to go outside. Scooby watched them ring that bell for a couple of days, and the next time he wanted to go out, he rang the bell himself.
We crate him at night because we have so many dogs in our bedroom (5), but he would be very happy to sleep in a bed at night with his person – never makes a sound until you let him out the next morning. Scooby sometimes gets on our furniture, but is usually happy just being close to us. He is not a snuggler – just wants to be where you are. Sometimes he smiles. We crated Scooby at first when we left the house, but he never got into anything or chewed anything up, so we no longer crate him when we have to leave home. Scooby will fetch a ball and bring it back to you. Pulls a little on a leash if he sees another dog, only because he wants to meet it. Happy little tail wags all the time.
Scooby can jump. He doesn’t try to jump our backyard fence (4 -board with horse wire inside), but he did jump the 3’ gate on our deck to go see another dog. If he goes to a home with a fence, it needs to be higher than 3’.
He seems to be well socialized. We have taken him on several outings to Home Depot and similar stores. His tail wags the whole time and he is not afraid of loud noises or new people and things.
Medical: At intake, Scooby had a skin infection with accompanying hair loss mostly on his underside from belly to neck. He also had ear infections in both ears. Most likely, these infections and hair loss were due to allergies – not yet know if he is allergic to the food he was on, things in the environment, or both. Vet does not think it was a flea allergy since he still had hair on his backside. Scooby has been treated for the infections; ears are all clear now and skin in improving with twice a week medicated baths, and daily antibiotic, itch relief medicine, and antihistamine. He is also now on a fish-based diet (Natural Balance – fish and sweet potato) and eats that line for dry food, canned food, and treats. Vet will re-evaluate in two weeks to see what meds Scooby will need to continue to take daily and if this food is helping. Potential adopter must be able to provide vet care/meds that Scooby needs for his skin allergies, including an occasional flare up, and a fish-based quality dog food recommended by the vet.
