Koa is an eight-year old Pomeranian girl who was found ambling along a very busy intersection in Los Angeles! One of our volunteers, who happened to be driving home from work, caught sight of Koa through the rear view mirror. She immediately turned on her emergency lights, pulled right over, and grabbed Koa to safety.
Koa was all skin and bones! She did not even have the strength to walk more than 10 steps. She could have easily gotten injured or killed on the road in such emaciated condition. She was also missing patches and patches of fur, and she had fleas crawling all over her frail body.
Koa now weighs a healthy 6.8 pounds, but can you believe she weighed a shocking 3.2 pounds when she first arrived at The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF)? Our veterinarian feared Koa might collapse and die the second we had arrived at the hospital. He recommended that we hospitalize her for a few days before deciding on euthanasia to spare her from any pain and suffering.
Miraculously, Koa perked up after a few days and she started to gain weight. She was beginning to eat on her own. After a few weeks, she was strong enough to let out a bark too!
Koa's fur is growing out evenly, and she is now ready for a forever home. She is such a calm, loving dog. She gives us gentle kisses. She likes to be carried around. She is completely potty-trained, and absolutely loves going on strolls around the park. Koa does great with well-mannered dogs. Though she has not been exposed to cats in her foster home, we think she will be just fine with them. She is sociable, playful, and doesn't have a single mean bone in her body!
