Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Colt is a 4 year-old purebred Aussie with tons of personality and energy. He came from a breeder, and has been in our home since 8 weeks old. He needs a new home due to health issues of his owner. He no longer has a yard to run in and his family is no longer able to provide the interaction and outdoor time that he needs.
Colt attends doggie daycare at his veterinary office and loves interacting with other dogs and staff. He also does great at the groomers. Colt does not mark his territory, is fully house trained, and he knows the commands sit, down, and stay. He also likes to fetch/play catch, sits up for food, and is learning shake. He loves to play with toys, is a gentle chewer, and does not chew on anything that isn't his. Colt is not food aggressive. He likes to go for walks, but can get VERY excited and pull on the leash (he's still learning how not to pull). He loves car rides and is very vocal when playing. He has a lot to say!
He has always been good with older kids (10+), but has never been around small children or cats. He does want to chase squirrels. As long as he gets the attention and excercise he needs, he does very well as an indoor family dog. He loves to lay on his family's feet. He is crate trained and prefes to sleep in his crate at night in his owner's bedroom. He does have anxiety when not around his family for extended periods of time, so he would do best in a home with lots of attention, but without a lot of excess stress and craziness going on. He can be shy around new people, but warms up quickl, and is VERY friendly to people he knows.
He has exhibited additional stress and anxiety recently as his family has not been able to spend the time and attention with him as usual due to health issues. As a result he has shown recent behavioral issues. We've seen the effects of this in his increased nipping for attention which is not uncommon for shepherd breeds but we have seen more of it than is normal for him. He has also become overprotective of his owners and was recently aggressive with an unfamiliar dog at a dog park that came between him and owner. Neither dog was bitten or injured, but this was out of character for Colt and we believe it is related to the stress and limited space/attention at home.
Aussies need lots of attention training, and exercise, and Colt is no exception. We are sad to have to give him up, but with his owner's health issues, a more stable environment is the best thing for him. Colt will make an excellent pet for the right home.
