My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Billy- Billy is a 12-year old Aussie mix, who was surrendered because his people were losing their home and couldn't take him along. He's on the smaller side, around 34 pounds at his last weighing, but would benefit from gaining 7-ish pounds. Like many seniors, Billy's memory isn't what it once was, and he sometimes forgets what he was supposed to be doing. But, hey, who hasn't forgotten what they were doing in a room in the house at some point? He's like someone's sweet old grandpa in dog form. He likes to potter around, spend a lot of time walking around outside, and take a lot of naps. He may be a bit hard of hearing and vision, but copes well enough that no one is 100% sure about it. He's very gentle, and tries to play with his foster brother sometimes. No one is ever quite sure what the game is, but that's ok! He was used to spending all of his time in an outdoor kennel, so Billy is still learning how to be a pet. However, he has perfect house manners and is housebroken. He's never had an accident in the house. Billy even puts himself to bed in his crate around 8:30 every night, and then stays in til morning once the door is closed. Billy really likes to have a confident dog to take his cues from and show him that he doesn't need to be startled by many things, and that people are okay to be around. His foster brother is an energetic 3-year old Aussie, and Billy likes to stick close to him when he's unsure of himself or a situation. Billy is polite to strangers, and will come over to say hi in his own time. He's still learning to enjoy petting. He is starting to like gentle neck and head scritches, but he's not a fan of full body petting at this time. Billy is fine on a leash, and has been around children and adults of all ages and genders with no issues. However, he would do best in an adult-only home because of his tendency to get startled by loud noises or very fast moving people. His ideal home would also be one where he's living with people who are able to let him acclimate and get used to things in his own time. He does not like to ride in a car without his dog friend with him. Billy is a bit of a special needs dog, due to his age, and some lingering clumsiness in his rear legs from having had a seizure when he was a puppy. He would do best with a large fenced yard to take his walks in, and few to no stairs. He loves to be outside, rain or shine, but needs to be reminded when it's time to come inside and dry off/warm up/cool down, etc. He has trouble keeping weight on, and eats well, but he's more of a continual snacker, so his new home will have to make sure he has some quiet time to himself to eat. (Purely so dog siblings don't help him eat his food - his foster brother is starting to get a little chunky!) http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application
