Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Megabyte, Kenzie, Harper and Frannie came to us after a stressful life as unwilling subjects of behavioral research, in a North Carolina lab. Every year, more than 100,000 animals including rats, mice, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, and many others are used in research and testing worldwide. We are honored to be able to provide safe haven to these 4 survivors, and to be able to help them on their way to forever homes. Due to their past experience with humans, the girls were fearful and untrusting at first, but they are slowly adjusting to a loving foster home, with ample living space, and a daily out-of-cage-time routine. Probably for the first time in their lives, they could now engage in natural behavior such as nest building, rearranging their enclosure, and having a worry-free existence, in an environment where their physical and emotional needs are being provided for. We love seeing Megabyte run up to the sound of her name or a cage door opening, and sprinting over all three levels of her large cage, to show her excitement over a new meal ingredient, or a toy. Kenzie, the nest maker, enjoys nothing more than shredding up every piece of newspaper put in the cage, and making a large fort out of it. Harper and Franny, the quiet ones, enjoy exploring new napping spots, and finding new hiding areas for their food hoarding endeavors.
We love putting in the time to get to know our new friends, and we hope to find experienced ratty adopters, who will be just as patient, to allow the girls to become more confident and develop a trusting relationship with humans. This special person or people will help the girls to show their true personalities in due time. If you think this is you, and you’re interested in adopting, please contact us at adopt@emptycagescollective.org for information on adopting protocols, as well as a link to our online adoption application.
