Here's what the humans have to say about me:
They say that dynamite comes in small packages, and it's true in Chloe's case. This very small, one year old sable and white rough collie weighs just 37 pounds. Not only does this active, playful girl have an abundance of energy, she also has an impressive "vocabulary." Chloe works hard to communicate by barking, especially when outdoors, or by vocalizing with sounds like Chewbacca from Star Wars makes. Chloe usually has good recall and she responds to commands to "sit," "wait" and "(lay) down." She is working to learn "stay"" and "quiet." She tolerates grooming well.
Before she came to MWCR, Chloe lived with a single mother and young children. Unfortunately, one of her primary experiences with men was with a neighbor who teased and upset her. As a result, Chloe prefers women. She is afraid of unfamiliar men and may bark aggressively at or nip them. Once she gets to know someone and learns to trust them, she warms up and shows her sweet, affectionate side. Chloe has a few other fears, too. She is afraid to ride in cars, so she will jump out of - but not into - them. Hair dryers and vacuums provoke barking.
Though trustworthy in the house, Chloe is used to going into her crate when left alone for more than a few hours. She will happily go in if offered a treat and she sleeps in it most of the time. Chloe has become completely housebroken in her foster home. She gets along well with the resident dogs, though she barks at and tries to chase the cats. She also barks at and shows a desire to herd her foster family's Pygmy goats. On walks, Chloe pulls on her leash and barks at passing cars as though she wants to chase them, so a fenced yard and walks on leashes are required. Chloe loves to cuddle with her foster family, curling up on the couch with anyone who will allow it.
This happy little dog who loves to run and play would do best in a forever home with another dog or two to play with and which has a fenced yard. Although she reportedly is good with children, it is recommended that Chloe not be adopted by a family with young children because she may occasionally nip. The person or family which understands and helps Chloe work through her fears is sure to find that they will have a dynamite dog.
