My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is a courtesy posting for the owners of Yuko. We are trying to avoid her ending up in the sheltering system, as it’s far from ideal for this dog, and no promise she would not end up euthanized for her behaviours. There is no adoption fee for Yuko, but there is an adoption application and process to ensure the best match is made. She needs a experienced adult only home that can train her and meet her needs and breed requirements that her current home cannot.

Yuko is a 3 yr old spayed female Husky Jindo cross that is approx 50 lbs. She was bought from a backyard breeder/uneducated family in Langley, and there are no contract ties for her sale. She is UTD on vaccines, and microchipped.

She has been raised in an adult only household with no children or other animals. Yuko has NOT been exposed to cats, but it should be assumed this would have to be done quite cautiously. Yuko has a strong, dominant personality and does not get along with all dogs - in some cases, even if she is not the active aggressor, other dogs will react to her energy. She has been to dog daycares before, and can interact well with the right dogs and right introductions. Her best friends are male dogs, and she does not typically do as well with females. She is used to being boarded at Pacific Northwest Kennels. We would not recommend her for a household with other dogs, but would consider meet and greets for experienced owners that have a dog she may get along with.

She is house trained and leash trained. She loves car rides and does well in cars. She is very high energy and loves to be out and active. If you are looking for a dog to get you off your butt, Yuko is your girl! She loves being with her family and receiving affection.

She is not outwardly aggressive to strangers, and can be too friendly in greeting adults and children by jumping up and knocking them off balance.

Yuko needs to be on leash or in properly fenced areas. She has no recall and will run away off leash. She can also jump short fences. A 4 ft fenced yard may only work for supervised playtime, and she may need 6ft for unsupervised time.

Smart dogs can often be more anxious than other dogs. Yuko used to have very severe separation anxiety (barking/howling) - especially in small rooms or enclosures, or when left for long hours; but it has gotten better since her current family moved to a larger home. Yuko has not been destructive when left with free roam of the home, and giving her this freedom reduces her anxiety. This girl would likely not a be a best fit for an apartment type situation. Yuko is “kind of” crate trained. When there crate is closed, she might scratch or bark if she wants to visit people or gets bored. But when the crate is left open she sees it as a safe place and will even choose to sleep in it. The command “go to bed” will have Yuko going to her crate.

Yuko has used mouthing/nipping behaviour to try and get her way in the past. She may nip or bite a person. This is a very husky like trait, and can be workable. Previously, she would act out when trying to run outside before/without her owners, when being handled or restrained, and anytime she wants her way or feels uncomfortable from the people around her. She has displayed food/resource guarding/possessing issues, and could be aggressive enough to bite if you were to quickly try to remove something from her mouth she shouldn’t have.

Yuko has had ear infections before and reacted badly when they needed to be treated. She does not like to be physically manipulated for medical or grooming purposes, and it would be advisable to muzzle her when undertaking actions such as ear drops, anything with the face or head, nail trims, etc. She will cry and scratch during baths, but her current family is able to bath her themselves. Yuko is a smart dog, so if she is distracted, she can behave better. If she sees what is going on, she can react worse. She has been manageable for basics like vet exams and vaccines.
