Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This beautiful boy with the soulful eyes is Royal. He got a less-than-optimal start in life; did not get socialized with many people. He lived with a large group of dogs cared for by just one man, so is still learning to trust people he doesn’t know.
Once Royal got bonded with his foster mom, we learned how super sweet he is. He gets along great with other dogs and lives peacefully in his foster home with indoor cats. He likes to stick close to his foster mom and follows her around the yard and house.
Royal came into our rescue from a semi-hoarding situation where a caring person was caring for too many dogs on a property that wasn't his. When the property was sold, all the dog were collected and went to the shelter. Because all of these dogs really only knew one person, they weren't too sure about the change in situation and the strangers trying to help them. They were frightened and shut down and not at all interested in being petted or loved on.
Wow, how Royal has changed! After slow, patient handling and time, time, time, Royal has decided that he is actually a love bug! He now enjoys all kinds of petting, hugging, face rubbing, ear rubbing, everything! He is still a little shy in new situations but he is much braver and will meet new people with willing caution. He seems to feel especially comfortable around calm youngsters, since they approach from his level.
He is good going to outdoor cafes and restaurants, again with some caution and wariness but he is getting more comfortable getting to know new people and places. Royal is a work in progress but wow, has he ever made progress already! He is what we call a "project dog" but what a fun & rewarding project!
Royal is looking for a home where he can have a doggy companion as he is used to being around other dogs. He is also good with cats. He hasn't lived in a home much so we are working on his house training. He IS crate trained, so this makes house training lots easier.
Royal needs a HOME or a FOSTER to help him expand his world.
