Meet Chewy, short for - you guessed it - Chewbacca of Star Wars!! Chewbacca was a tall, hirsute, intelligent and loyal being, and close friends with Hans Solo. Our Chewy is tall, hirsute, intelligent and loyal as well!! Chewy's shelter name was Pablo, and he arrived at the shelter with a story!

It turns out that Pablo was running loose in a park with children, after apparently being abandoned there, and du e to his size, the parents were alarmed. In steps our friends, The W-Underdogs, to the rescue! They worked quickly to get him him under control, and then reached out to Atlanta Police Department, who gave him a ride to the shelter. We love Grace and the W-Underdogs, a youth organization that instills compassion and ethics for rescuing and advocating for local animals in need. We were so delighted to find out this part of Chewy's story, after we had already selected him to be a CCM dog! Thank you, W-Wunderdogs and Grace, for helping get this boy to safety!

Chewy is a young - just over a year old - Leonberger. Leonbergers are a breed created by a mix of Newfie, longhaired Saint Bernard, and Great Pyrenees, and are a beautiful and majestic breed known for their lion like looks. Our Chewy is beautiful, calm and very smart. He is observant of his surroundings, loves everyone he meets, and thinks that he is a lap dog! Chewy currently weighs in at 76 pounds, and he is not done growing yet.
