My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Luke is a 12-year-old neutered female black lab. Luke weighs 51 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family, Townhouse in a quiet area (she is a senior and currently handles stairs well but this is not a given for future)
Fence: No requirements

May 3, 2018: Luke continues to thrive and progress in her foster home. She loves attention and loves to hang out in the yard with the other calm pups. She has developed a love for her new Kuranda bed too!! Such a sweet old girl in search of somewhere to spend her golden years!

Mar 23, 2018: Luke is still being a good girl at her foster. She enjoys rambling around the yard with the other "old folks" the older and calm pups at the foster home. Luke has had a rough life and would love nothing more than to have a place to call her own for a few more years and a soft place to lay her head. She is sweet, affectionate and easy to love.

Mar 9, 2018: Luke and her (yes, she’s female) four brothers and sisters were surrendered after their family lost their home. They didn’t come from the best of situations, but they were loved. The neighborhood was not a very safe one so they didn’t go for walks, or even spend very much time outside, and visitors rarely came to the house; over a decade of social isolation takes some work. But their fosters were up to the task and have worked extensively to get them comfortable with new people and dogs, AND IT HAS WORKED!!!

Luke does just fine with other quiet dogs- male or female, but she doesn’t care too much for the high energy in-your-face dogs who don’t believe in personal space. She is mellow and affectionate- she loves to be touched by human hands. She doesn’t need to be crated: she does fine loose or would be fine gated off.

She can be a bit possessive with food around other dogs (probably had to fend for herself for limited eats) so she should be fed separately. She enjoys treats but still hasn’t learned that she doesn’t need to be grabby with them, although she has gotten much better.

Luke was a pretty good passenger for her transporters: she just sat back, occasionally looking out the window. She does okay on a leash, but does much better once she is comfortable with her person and surroundings.

Good with other calm dogs, unknown with cats, approved for age 10 and up
