My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Calliope, a tortoiseshell cat born in 2015. Calliope has the classic tortoiseshell coat, a beautiful mix of black, orange, and brown patches and even has a line down the middle of her nose. Her unique coloring is complemented by her distinctive white bib and mittens, giving her a charming and refined look.

Calliope is a little chunky, adding to her cuteness and giving her a soft, cuddly appearance. Her body is sturdy but graceful, and her rounded shape makes her even more endearing. She is a little shy, preferring to observe from a safe distance before engaging. However, her shyness adds to her charm, making her a sensitive and thoughtful companion. Once she feels comfortable, Calliope reveals her friendly and affectionate nature.

She enjoys being around her favorite people and might show her affection through gentle head bumps, purring, or curling up next to you. While she may be hesitant at first, Calliope’s curiosity often wins out. Her warmth and loyalty will make her a beloved part of the family.

Additional adoption info

1) The first step to meet the cats at Animal House is to email us at AHcatadoption@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name, age, address, and phone number. We will respond as soon as possible to answer your questions and schedule an appointment to visit our shelter. If you have already submitted an inquiry through Adopt-a-Pet or Petfinder about a particular cat, there is no need to send a separate email.
2) During your appointment, you will complete a questionnaire and work with an adoption coordinator to find the cat that is right for you. This process may involve meeting with numerous cats, or even making more than one visit to Animal House. You and your new cat will live together for a lifetime, so this step is important.
3) Before adoption, we ensure that your cat has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
4) When your adoption is finalized, the adoption paperwork is completed and a $130 adoption fee for adult cats and $150 for kittens is collected.

More about this shelter

Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center is a private, non-profit, “no-kill” organization dedicated to providing the homeless, abandoned cats and kittens of St. Louis with a better life. We are committed to maintaining an adoption center that provides a safe, healthy and enriching environment, and our goal is a solid and lasting adoption for every cat and kitten in our care.

Animal House opened in 2010 when the City of St. Louis closed its municipal shelter and ended a number of services for stray animals. Not only did the 75 cats residing in their shelter need a place to go, the St. Louis community needed services for abandoned, homeless cats. Animal House was born out of that need. Today we house 100-250 cats and kittens at any given time.

The cats and kittens at Animal House are rescued from the streets of our community and often come from challenging circumstances that include neglect, abandonment, or injury. We have created a safe place where cats in need find shelter, medical and nutritional support, individualized socialization and interaction, enrichment, lots of love, and the opportunity to connect with a loving, lifelong family. We impose no time limit on this process, giving each cat or kitten the time they need. We emphasize matchmaking throughout our adoption process to ensure the best possible match.
