My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Who is looking for a nice dog?  And I mean a really, really nice dog!  Mossy (not sure how the shelter came up with this name) (we have renamed him Cooper after Clint Eastwood's role as Marshal Jed Cooper in the movie Hang 'em High since his poor neck is such a mess)  is such a good boy and a complete pleasure to have around.  He was a stray who was found with both a collar and a cable embedded 1/2 inch deep into his neck.  According to his records, it took 1 1/2 hours of surgery to get the collar and cable removed from under his skin.  I took him in as a foster thinking he was going to act like the proverbial wild dog of Borneo and I could not have been more wrong.  He is an absolute delight.  He has wonderful house manners, is friendly to every person and every dog he meets, he is affectionate and calm in the house.  At first it was almost impossible to get him in the car, but now he loves car rides.  Yesterday he had his first trip to the dog park and he had a blast.  He interacted beautifully with dogs of all breeds and sizes.

The negatives with this dog are very few!  He does cry when someone leaves, but only for less than a minute.  He also likes to carry around your shoes, but he does not even leave a tooth mark on them!  When I came home the other day, I found a loaf of bread on the stairs and an jumbo pack of toilet paper in the middle of my rec room, but all items were intact and not chewed.  He joins my pack of three female GSDs in barking at anyone who dares to walk on the other side of our fence - but that seems to be the only time he barks.  Since his neck is still healing, he will need to be walked using a harness for some time to come.  He likes to stand up on his hind legs, plant his huge feet on your shoulders, and give you kisses on the face.  I was happy to see that he did not jump on anyone yesterday while we were at the dog park.  Super Duper Cooper is being fostered in Sterling VA and if you would like additional information, please send a note to gsdhouse@comcast.net .
