Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mattie Mae 10 years old and weighs a very skinny 4.5 pounds. Mattie Mae is being fostered in The Villages, FL. Mattie Mae’s adoption fee is $195.
UPDATED BIO 05/04/2018: Hi everyone! Mattie Mae here with the latest and greatest pup-date on me! I went to the dogtor for a check-up and I'm still a little peanut at 4.7 lbs! I got some of my vaccinations updated, but not my rabies or my dental. I still have to wait a little while for that, but I don't mind. Foster mommy tells me that I am sweet and cute and well-behaved. I totally agree with that.
I'm loving life here with my foster mommy, but I'm ready to be someone's little forever sweetheart, so let me tell you some of my likes and dislikes. Here’s what the perfect home for me would be:
- I really need a retired or stay-at-home mommy or daddy because I LOVE to be around my people. I don't like to be at home alone very much. When my people do go away and then come back, I get very excited to see them. Foster mommy thinks that maybe I have a little bit of separation anxiety, and she's probably right. I can be home alone for short periods, but really prefer to have someone at home to snuggle with and pet me.
- I like belly rubs so much that when foster mommy stops I nudge her hand for more - aren't I cute? So my forever parents would have to cater to my need for lots of belly rubs.
- I get along most of the time with my fur-siblings, but sometimes I get jealous that they are getting more attention than I am and I get a little grumpy! So even though I get along with other doggies, I'd really prefer to be the only dog in the house. In fact, I want to be the only pet in the house - that way you can focus all your love on me!
Please don’t turn away from me because I’m considered a “senior”. I am happy and healthy and have tons of love to give to my forever parents. I promise you that I will love you forever and ever - and that could be a l-o-n-g time. If you are looking for a little companion who loves to be close to you all the time
UPDATED BIO 4/18/2018: Hi everybody! Mattie Mae here. I wanted to give you all a pupdate on how life is going in my foster home. Boy, life is so much better now that I am here! My foster mom tells me all the time that I am so sweet and loving. I love to be by her side or on her lap and have her pet me. She says that I am a friendly girl who likes to be around people. I like children too ,but they have to be over the age of 12 because I am so small and could get hurt easily.
I have a couple of fur siblings who are close to my age and “chill” like I am. I get along well with them and would do ok in a home with one other doggie companion like that. I’d also be happy to be the only dog so that I can have all the attention to myself. I’ve never met a cat so I’m not sure I’d be happy with one of those in the house.
I still need to gain some weight before I can get my shots and dental. I love to eat, so gaining weight is ok with me! My teeth are not very pretty! Foster mom cleans them with a q-tip and uses hydrogen peroxide on them and my sore gums. I am a good girl and sit still why she does it. I know that she is trying to help me feel better. My skin is getting better and my hair is growing in, thanks to foster mom giving me medicated baths and fish oil supplements. My new furever owner may need to continue with both in order to keep my skin and hair healthy.
I’m house-trained, but …. I do sometimes have accidents in the house. Foster mom had my urine checked by the dogter and he said everything is A-OK. So I guess I just have a weak or small bladder which makes me have to go potty every couple of hours. Because I have to go out so often, I need a stay-at-home or retired furever mommy or daddy. I also take cranberry supplements which have seemed to help.
I love to go for walks and do well on a leash. I also love to go for rides in my stroller and in the car. I’m a happy little curious and calm gal who just wants someone who will cuddle and love me. I will give you lots of love in return.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of Mattie Mae’s small size, she cannot be adopted into a home with children under the age of 12 years old.
UPDATED BIO 03/27/2018: Mattie Mae was surrendered to United Yorkie Rescue when her owner no longer wanted to care for her. She was going to be surrendered with her brother Max, but he was too sick and was euthanized before becoming a United Yorkie Rescue foster dog.
Mattie Mae saw the vet yesterday and she is very underweight - her healthy weight should be about 6 lbs. She loves to eat and now that she is on a premium quality dog food, she should gain that weight quickly. Mattie definitely needs a dental and vaccinations, and once her blood panel is back and we know that she is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia, she will have a dental so that no bacteria from her badly-infected mouth will travel through her little body. Her vaccinations will be done once she gains some much-needed weight. This little sweetie appears to have had skin infections in the past - most likely yeast infections - and although her skin is clear now, she does have areas of black, leathery skin as a result of past untreated infections. These areas certainly don't affect her cuteness factor!
In spite of the total absence of medical care in the recent past, Mattie Mae is a sweet doggie, though a little timid. She is already enjoying sitting on her foster mom's lap and cuddling with her. Please come back and visit Mattie Mae as we learn more about her medical needs and discover her true
