Meet Sophie. She’s about 8 years old and we assisted with her placement 7 years ago. She came to NJ from KS when our sister rescue in that area didn’t have the space to assist.
Her living situation is going to change and her families feels a new home would be better than trying to manage her in a temporary environment for an extended period.
Sophie is a lovely lady, about 60 lbs, current with her vetting, was diagnosed with Addison’s in 2017 but otherwise healthy with clean teeth and in good shape. Her Addison’s is managed with a small daily dose of prednisone that only costs about $20/month and annual bloodwork to monitor her levels and make adjustments as needed.
Sophie is a happy, energetic GSP. She’s friendly and playful too. She love fetch and is a super chewer and so far has one favorite toy that indestructible for Sophie! She enjoys swimming. While she’s housebroken, she’s also used to the freedom of a dog door and she respects Invisible Fencing. If left unattended, she’s been known to jump 6’ fencing and can be a digger so IF is ideal for her containment. Sophie knows basic commands like sit, come, give and fetch. Sophie is not crate trained and while she has free roam in her home, her family doesn’t feel she’d do well being left for an extended period. They think she could be destructive if she doesn’t have an adequate outlet for her energy and/or the freedoms that a dog door provide her.
Sophie lives with another GSP. Sophie is the alpha of the two and over the years, they have had a few incidents. We believe the ideal placement for Sophie would be an adult home where she’d be a single pet, have the freedom of a dog door and a yard with Invisible Fencing for containment - an environment very close to what she currently has.
