My name is Ivy. I'm 5 years old and 45 lbs and I'm looking for my forever home!
Have I got a story for you! I found myself in a not so great living situation a while ago and I finally got free! All smiles here. Anyway, apparently they thought I was so great and so pretty that they wanted puppies from me, A LOT of puppies. Unfortunately, they only wanted me for my puppies and not for me and so didn’t take that great of care of me. Five litters later, I have finally found myself in a whole new world! The great people from the GSP Rescue found a room for me (literally since I needed quite a bit of space to myself to deliver and care for my last litter of puppies), and here I am finally living the good life.
My foster family took me in and helped out with the puppies, even finding them all homes. Now my Foster Mom says it’s my turn to find that furever home that will love me for me. I definitely like my foster mom the best, but she does spend the most time with me. She gives me clean beds to sleep on, lots of treats, food, and tons of toys! I especially love the toys part. I love them so much that sometimes I empty out the toy box and make myself a nest out of them. I also tend to rip them apart, guess that’s just the huntress in me. Oh, and the little squeaky ones! I can’t resist. I also pile up all of the balls outside to play with so anyone wanting me in their family, needs to make sure I have lots of toys.
Foster mom says I am a very loveable girl and would love to have someone who would snuggle with me. I do enjoy going for walks but I’m not sure that I would want to be a runner. I’m one of those rare lower energy GSPs. So, lots of snuggles and hugs for me. I like kisses too even though foster mom says I’m stingy on returning them.
Food, did I mention food? I love food. Doesn’t everybody? Unfortunately, where I used to live didn’t always feed me that much and my foster mom says it looks like I may have had to fight for food sometimes too. I have little scars all over my head and a notch in my ear. So, I don’t really like to share my food still. I’m getting better and can now eat in the same room as my foster fur-siblings but they better not get too close! I don’t like it. I don’t mind if the people in my family come near and I’ll even let them take it if they really want to (why would they?), but I would prefer that other dogs give me my space to eat. If they get too close, I might growl at them but stop as soon as they back away.
So let’s see, toys, food… friends! I do like to have friends but I like to be in charge when I do. I have a tendency to posture and be bossy so if you already have a fur-friend that likes to be bossy too, your home may not be the one for me. But, if you have a friend for me that doesn’t care who’s in charge, I might be your girl! I like to run around in the yard with my foster fur-friends where we run and wrestle!
Speaking of friends, there might be some of the human variety at your house as well. Foster mom says a house with no small children would be best for me. Sometimes when they are all running around and making lots of loud noises I get very frantic and start spinning and barking and running with them and then I don’t know what to do! Foster Mom can sometimes get me to calm down just by petting me and talking to me calmly, other times she has to put me in the crate for some down time. Maybe it’s because they sound like squeaky toys? Same goes for cats. I’m okay with cats, but am still working on those manners. There are two cats where I live right now. One of them I ignore because she’s old and she doesn’t run which is no fun at all. The other one occasionally runs and I can’t always help myself. I do stop when foster mom says ‘no cat’ though.
I do have some of my house manners although I arrived here with none. In between raising those pups, I have managed to learn to NOT use the house as my bathroom, I no longer steal things from the counter, the table, the trash, etc. I can be put into my crate without going crazy and thrashing around to get out. Though I do like to get a treat for going in nicely. I don’t destroy anything around the house, except for my toys. I come when called (treats usually await me!) I am working on sit but I find it really hard to concentrate sometimes. I’ve just never had to do such clever things before. Foster mom says that I have really settled in nicely here and says that wherever I wind up, I will probably calm down and decompress some more.
So, if you think I might just be the dog of your dreams, contact the GSP Rescue of NJ. The nice folks there will make sure they feel we’ll be a great fit and who knows, we just might fill the void each of us has!
