Here's what the humans have to say about me:
5 year old Papaya is a known couch potato. She knows sit, stay, down, come and drop it, walks well on leash, is crate and house trained, and gets along with kids. She would do best in a home as your only dog so she can make your world sublime and vivacious! If you are looking for a lovable wiggle butt, you've found her!
Per her foster: " I am having a fun time with Papaya! She is a very sweet dog and very playful, too. We have had a lot of walks around the Southwestern University campus because it’s quiet and we don’t usually run in to other dogs. She really enjoys the trails around there. Indoors she is like the perfect dog-never gets into anything she’s not supposed to and she’s perfectly content laying next to me on the couch with a chew toy while I get some work done."
If you are interested in adopting a new pet from the City of Georgetown Animal Shelter, please fill out an application at https://pets.georgetown.org/adoption/adoption-contract/ and then e-mail it to animalsvc@georgetown.org . This is a temporary change to operations put in place to protect visitors, volunteers, and staff. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule an appointment to meet available dogs and cats. Please contact the shelter with any additional questions.
The application/screening process for potential adopters usually takes about 24 hours except when it falls over a weekend or holiday, and then it may take two or three days. We ask that potential adopters please be patient with us; we are only trying our best to ensure that the homeless pets in our care get the best possible home. All cats and dogs adopted from our shelter are spayed or neutered (as Texas law mandates).
Our adoption fee is currently $70 for non-residents and $75 for residents*.
The adoption fee includes:
spaying/neutering
vaccinations (appropriate to species and age)
heartworm or feline leukemia test (appropriate to species and age)
de-worming medication
microchip (a tiny ID tag inserted under the skin, which allows your pet to be returned to you quickly)
There is a $5 Pet License fee added to the adoption fee if the adopter lives inside the City Limits of Georgetown.
Please visit our website for more information on how to adopt, special events, adoption application, educational and volunteer information.
