Tobey is a playful and adventurous boy. Saved from an early life that was not very peaceful, nor easy, Tobey arrived at Rosie's in survival mode. Having been the object of abuse in various forms, we had to teach him how to be a dog again. Severe malnutrition as well as various parasites rendered his life very hard and that's why, at the beginning, he lunged at any other creature nearby when he had food in front of him. Luckily, still being a young puppy, it was not that long before we were able to reset Tobey to a well-adjusted dog: he’s learned to have confidence in people and he's lost all signs of aggression and dominance. He's learned to respect children, other dogs and even cats. Yes, even cats.
It was also a struggle to teach him that the outdoors, where he needed to “go”, was not a place to fear. The path to toilet training has not been easy, and he is not there 100% yet, but almost! Knowing all this, Tobey’s forever family should be able to complete his overall training to bring him to his full potential. He is becoming a well-balanced dog, but being so young and so recently rescued, he’ll need guidance from his forever family to stay on this good path. For these reasons, we will be very selective in searching for his forever family. This family should have experience with dogs and be able to correct at the first sign of regression in his behavior. It will be the work of some months to ensure he becomes his best self, but with the right family, he’ll make it.
This being said, Tobey is a marvelous dog and funny (he’s discovered his tail!!). He’s very bright and walks very well on leash, has an alert look and aims to please. He’ll need a solid hour or more of exercise per day and he loves to play with a ball. He has an endearing, clumsy, goofy side. He is gentle at play with his foster family. He sleeps well in his crate at night and waits patiently in a sit until we give the go ahead for his meals. He has come such a long way in such a short time! He also has his basic commands down. Such a good boy!
If you think you have the experience and patience to take Tobey the rest of the way, please fill out an adoption form.
