My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

UPDATE 11/8/17 - George is doing very well in his rehab. He has put on muscle to strengthen and support his hips. I've been taking him on longer walks on trails, dog park sessions and he's a hoppy play bunny at puppy playtime. He's also walking well on the leash, sit and down. We are working on stay and come but he's smart and learns fast. His PT exercises are quick and easy because he's so good at them!  He is loved by all who meet him.

George is a Hurricane Harvey evacuated pup who had a rough start in life without many people taking interest in saving him. But here he is...George is one of the sweetest puppies I've ever met.  He is energetic in bursts then needs to sleep for more growing time.  We believe when he's full grown he will be 30lbs. George is blind in one eye but it doesn't slow him down.  He is very curious about everything but also tends to stay close to either his dog pals or his humans. Unless you are at the dog park and then everyone is his friend. We are working on general manners. He walks well on a leash when alone but when with his dog pack he likes to try to pull ahead to lead the way. And play....george lives to play with other dogs and toys.  He's a playful goofy explorer. Everything goes in his mouth because he is checking out this new world. So lots of toys around and monitoring his play to help him choose the right things to chew on (he's doing very well with this in my home). At night he does very well sleeping in his crate and will whine/bark to let you know if he needs to go potty. During the day he wants to be with you or his dog pals. He has done very well being left free range in my house with my dogs for a few hours. George would do best with work from home family or have dog pals or doggy day care.

George has hip dysplasia. PLEASE don't stop reading...he is a seriously cool dog. He's currently doing rehab exercises and swim therapy to help his hind end get stronger to support his hips. He is doing fantastic with all this love. The change in his movement and strength has him fully romping at puppy playtime. Since he is a smaller dog he is a great candidate for FHO surgery when he turns a year old or is fully grown. After surgery he will move and feel even better which is hard to imagine since he gets around so well. AND live a full happy life! AARF is committed to covering the cost of his rehab program and the FHO surgery with our vet. This little guy does very well at the dog park, on walks, playing fetch, wrestling with my 85lb dogs and climbing up on my couch. After his surgery he will be able to go on 4-5hr hikes with mild elevation gain...followed by a day of rest.  He will never be a running dog but he is a fantastic walking and cuddle companion.  He truly is a must meet puppy.

As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters.  Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can.  It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process.  Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
