My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Jewel was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas when she was very very pregnant with her babies and imminently about to give birth. We were able to get her into a local vet and she had her puppies less than 24hrs later! 7 babies made it and they are now weaned and ready to be adopted, so it's time for our beautiful Jewel to find her forever home also.

Jewel is as beautiful on the inside as she is out. She is gentle, calm and very very sweet. She LOVES attention and cuddles and will snuggle with you all day long if given the opportunity. She's not a fan of the rain and has to be taken outside to pee- who can blame her!! She is a wonderful momma and very protective of her babies, but when they are tucked away safely she gets on great with her foster families female dog.

She hasn't been around cats but is very interested in squirrels and birds. She's young and cautious around strangers but ADORES kids and once she knows you won't hurt her will love you too! She's crate trained (reluctant to go in but fine once inside) and walks nicely on a leash. She will sit on command but only if you insist.

As she is so young and so social we would prefer a home where she won't be alone long hours. She is 95% potty trained but doesn't like to ask to go out.

Catahoulas are intelligent dogs who need a firm kind owner who will be consistent and who understands the needs of training classes and updates. They were originally bred to hunt hogs in Louisiana and as such can be challenging for the first time owner. BUT should you take on that challenge you will be rewarded with unwavering loyalty and an amazing family member. Jewel is currently very mellow but once she settles in I'm sure her cheeky nature will sneak out.

PLEASE do your research on this breed and feel free to ask questions! We require home and reference checks before adoption and our adoption contract requires training class. Jewel was spayed on Dec 4th and is currently recovering.

The adoption fee is $350.

As we are purely a foster based rescue we cannot honor meet and greets for anyone without a preapproved application. If you are interested in meeting Jewel please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org under the forms tab. It will not obligate you to anything but gives us a great tool to begin the matching process for each of our dogs. We work hard to match personalities and ensure our dogs of their forever homes, so the more information you can include on your application the better!
