My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sometimes in rescue, there are dogs that reach out and tell you they need a second chance. That is true in the case of Jingles, the small Cocker Spaniel. The president of MMR was in a shelter in Montgomery County, Maryland visiting other dogs. She was hoping to pull some of them out of the shelter and into rescue. That is when she met Jingles.  He was the smallest Cocker Spaniel she had ever met, and was super friendly and sweet. The shelter staff shared his all too common story.  He had been turned over to the shelter because his former owners did not want him any longer.  He was older, and blind. Jingles is estimated to be about 10 years old. We think someone forgot to tell Jingles he was blind, and that he should be sad in the shelter, or that he should not act like a puppy, because he was happy to meet everyone; his little nub tail wagging the whole time, and he didn't seem to notice or care that he was blind.  The president contacted some other rescues about this great little guy before she even left the shelter.  We have so many special needs dogs right now, she felt we could not squeeze in any more.

Luckily for Jingles, she could not get him out of her mind..or heart.  So, back she went to the shelter and Jingles is now looking for his new forever home.  He will be seeing an eye specialists shortly, and we are hopeful that his eye sight can be restored!!!!  (No promises but we are hopeful)  He has been brought up to date on his vaccines, neutered, and is heart worm negative. He also received a much needed grooming. Now that the extra hair has been trimmed, he weighs a total of about 15 pounds. He is a true lap dog and love bug.  He gets along great with other dogs, and all people.  We believe he would do best with children over the age of 13, only because of his eyesight....he seems to love children, but as a blind dog, older children may be best.  A fenced yard is preferred for Jingles, to give him the freedom to explore his new area with his family, and experience with the breed is also strongly preferred.   He does great in his foster home, and rarely bumps into anything, now that he has been there a few weeks.  He goes outside in a fenced yard, and enjoys leash walks, too.  He also appears to be house trained. In his current foster home, he lives with a Newfoundland, a boxer, another cocker, and a mastiff. He LOVES them all. In fact his favorite thing is to 'spoon' the older mastiff in his foster home.

If you are looking for a great addition to your family, and would like to have a 'wiggle butt' to welcome you home after work, Jingles may just be what you are looking for.   There is something very, very special about this dog.....nothing we can explain, but it is there. It is that something special that made his rescuer turn around and go back and get him from the shelter.  If you would like to be considered for Jingles forever home, please fill out an application to begin the approval process.

***Updates from his eye doctor appointment will be posted here as soon as he is seen and diagnosed.***

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
