My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Oscar!!!

This darling 8 pound, 6 year old(vet estimated), Poodle was picked up as a stray in Prince George's County, Maryland.  No one ever came to claim him, and no one was surprised that they didn't, because of the condition he was in when he arrived at the shelter.  Oscar had to be completely shaved down because he was full of dirt, debris and painful mats that were twisting his skin.  From what we can tell, his coat was mostly white.    Once he was shaved and bathed, he felt so much better.  We have no idea how long this little man was on the streets, or even how he survived....but that is all behind him now.

Oscar has been neutered and brought up to date on his vaccines.  He has tested negative for heart worm disease, and is now on a monthly preventative.  He also received a much needed dental and lost several teeth.  His mouth was one of the worst we have seen in some time ,and we are so glad he is no longer in pain from decaying teeth.
Other than being on soft food for a few days, and antibiotics for another week, he will have no lingering effects from his teeth.  He has been given a clean bill of health, and is now looking for his forever home.

Oscar is in a foster home with two other small dogs, and is recuperating with rest and good nutrition.  He appears to be fine with other small dogs. Oscar will enjoy the company of a buddy as he adjusts to his new home. Oscar seems to like everyone, but he is so small, we do not feel he would be appropriate for families with toddlers.   Oscar is interested in what is going on in his foster home, but has not engaged in play because he has only been there for one day.(as of 5/3/16).  We expect that he will do so once he recovers from his dental, and feels more confident about his surroundings.   Oscar is very sweet and loves to be held, and we look forward to watching him blossom in his foster home.    PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES AS WE GET TO KNOW OSCAR.  WE WILL POST MORE ADOPTION INFO AS WE GET TO KNOW HIM BETTER.

My adoption fee is $350, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
