Meet Cain, a handsome 1 year old Cockapoo weighing just 20 pounds. Cain comes to us from Animal Care and Control of NYC, where he was turned in as an owner surrender. Cain is a big dog in a little dog's body and can therefore be a handful. As he is strong willed with a big personality, he requires an experienced owner to show him the way. He will not be suitable in a home with very young children. Cain is a high energy dog who requires a lot of exercise, so would be well matched for an owner who takes daily runs or power walks. As he has a keen intellect (and becomes unhappy when bored) he will thrive if offered opportunities for ongoing training and/or an activity such as "flyball". He is fully housebroken and knows a lot of commands. Cain will fare best in a home with a large fenced yard, as he loves to play fetch. He is unlikely to do well in an apartment setting given both his energy level and his tendency to bark when overly excited. Cain is generally fine with other dogs, although his tendency is to try for the role of "top dog" in the pack, so will make a good companion for a dog whose tendency is to follow rather than lead. Cain is a healthy boy who has been neutered, microchipped, is current on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. He will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.
