My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Balto came to me in Jan. 2018 at 1.5 years of age. He is a dream of a dog: sweet, loving, housebroken, playful, listens well, doesn't bark, and is drop dead gorgeous. His owner lived behind me and was evicted for not paying rent. 30 days after leaving he asked me to keep Balto for 1-night as the house he was moving into wasn't ready. He never came to retrieve Balto and it's been over 2+ months now. PLUS when he lived behind me Balto was consigned to the garage vs. inside with the family and he is SUCH A LOVER he needs to be with his family. And when he arrived (it was a long, convoluted story none of which I believe anymore) he was on a tether not a leash so I believe he'd been tied in someone's yard. Balto (huskies in general) don't bark they 'talk.' Because I have other fosters I have leashed him in the kitchen to let others in/out to prevent fights and when I'm out of sight he cries and sounds like he's being murdered! (That's why I think he came to me after being tied somewhere.) It's actually pretty funny and he won't do it when he's with his family as they'll be no need to tie him like I have to do.

The only other thing is YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO COOK FOR HIM. Balto will NOT eat dog food. His owner apparently either spoiled him or/he refused from when he was young I'm not sure. He weighed 45 lbs. in Jan. and his backbone stuck out. He's since put on weight with me. I feed him chicken & rice because I'm single without time to cook so I buy rotisserie chicken and mix it with Uncle Ben's chicken flavored brown rice packets. A chicken lasts 3-days and the packets are $2.37/each and he gets a full packet daily. I also give him a children's multivitamin to ensure he's getting the nutrients he needs but I have to bury it in cream cheese or he spits it out if it's in another kind of treat. I work a lot of hours and have multiple fosters so I don't have time to cook but you could cook a big batch of rice and ground turkey or beef, or chicken in a crock pot or similar weekly and portion out his food, freeze it and give him a baggie or two daily. Adding green vegies and others to food is extremely good for home cooked meals. I encourage you to check out 'Planet Paws' on Face Book. Rodney Habib runs the site and it has suggestions for home cooking, raw foods, home made treatments for itchy skin, etc. Plus he and a veterinarian are doing a series on cancer in dogs and it's the FOOD we've been feeding the past 40 years (canned & kibble) causing it! So home cooking is much, much healthier and better for a dog.

Huskies allegedly have a strong prey drive and tho I've not seen it exhibited in Balto (I have some cats) I do keep him separate from them. He's shown interest in them but I don't let him get close for safety. He's friendly with other dogs but takes a little while to warm up and know that they're safe to play with. He is hysterical when he runs he bounds up/down like a bunny rabbit! And he loves to play with toys tossing them in the air and chasing them to amuse himself.

Huskies have coats that 'blow' 2x/year when seasons change for about a week or two. That's when shedding is worst. Once the undercoat's gone they shed very little. You'd need to brush him well always but especially during the times of year his coat changes. He has beautiful, luxurious, long, soft fur you can get lost in he's so snuggly. (He actually 'hugs' you with his paws! And when he lies on the ground he splays his legs & paws out to where he looks like a frog ... very unusual to the way most dogs lie.)

I'd keep him in a heartbeat if I didn't have so many and could afford to. I am totally in love with him. If interested please text or email asking for an adoption application. Between the hours I work and take care of the animals talking/communicating takes that much more time and too many people get interested in a dog only to back out after multiple conversations and lengthy emails. I don't see how to attach the adoption app here or I'd attach it. So please text or email requesting an adoption application. Once you've filled it in and returned it we can talk. That's MY first step to ensuring a dog and an applicant might be a good match. I've not yet vetted him but will prior to adoption. There will be an adoption fee, home check and contract stipulating if the adoption doesn't work out that he comes back to me for rehoming.
