Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Please read Gus’ full bio before submitting an application. Thank you!*
Note Gus requires multiple meet and greets.
Name: Gus
Age: 2 (2017)
Breed: Pomeranian/Dachshund mix
Temperament: Feral, very shy, a bit more friendly once he gets to know you.
Good with Dogs: Good with small dogs, does not like big dogs.
Good with Cats: Unknown, can test for an approved applicant, but based on temperament, we believe he would be fine.
Good with Kids: No
Gus is extremely unsocialized, he came from a hoarding situation where he was never properly cared for and was in horrible condition. Gus cannot walk on a leash, he cannot be picked up, he cannot go for walks in the neighborhood or dog parks, he is not a lap dog and will not cuddle.
He is what we classify as feral being about 20% rehabbed. Gus has come out of his shell somewhat since we originally rescued him. When he is out in the yard he runs away from you and barks. If you are looking for a dog that will be all over you and shower you with immediate love, then Gus is not for you. He would be a great companion dog to another small dog. He is very much a pack animal and follows wherever the herd goes, he is very playful with other small dogs. He is feral and 20% rehabbed. He will require TLC, time and patience. He does not like to be picked up, he doesn’t like loud noises, he will snap and bite if he is scared. As of now he does shred toys, beds and blankets. He is jumpy when you touch him, when he allows you to touch him. Your patience is key with this boy. Remember, he was failed by the human who had him. It is our goal to show him we are not here to hurt him, but to love him. His favorite thing is treats! Please note that Gus is still having a hard time learning to use a leash therefore he would not be fit to live in an apartment. He does need a home with a fenced yard because of his current fears and tendency to bolt.
