Hi! I’m Andy! I found my way to MWBCR when the shelter I was at called to ask for help. I wasn’t really worried when I first got there because I’d been there a couple times before and my family always came back for me when they called them to say I’d escaped again. I waited and waited but this time they didn’t come back for me. So right now I have to stay with this family who wants to make me learn things like my name and manners. It’s OK, I try hard, because I really, really love people. I want to make people happy and when they smile at me and I smile at them. When they pet me, I am so happy my tail wants to wag right off. I love to be by people, follow people and just be by people. My favorite thing to do is snuggle with people. When I see my persons, I smile and run over and lean in for pets and scratches. My other favorite thing to do is help people in the kitchen. I like to see if there’s anything in the fridge that might need to be eaten, or trash that might need to be taken out. Sometimes people might even need my help to eat their dinners. I always try to help but for some reason my mom doesn’t want me to. I’m learning that I need to wait politely in the other room when people are eating or putting away dishes or groceries. Then when I’m good, I get a smelly treat and then we get to play puzzle games or chase around. I can’t play with chew toys or eat bones because it hurts my teeth. I really miss chewing on bones, tennis balls and wood. I think the vet said something about rocks, whatever those are. They were probably delicious. Anyway, my sibling dogs would be fun to play with if they weren’t so rambunctious, those whippersnappers.
So, I’d be a lot happier in a home with older dogs (and cats, please cats) and people who want to play and take slow walks and snuggle with me when you’re chilling out, and with someplace comfy where I can take epic afternoon naps. I haven’t been around kids, but small children might scare me. I would be happy with older kids though. And I don’t mind other dogs, as long as they stay off my lawn. I really hope I can find somewhere to chill out and enjoy some days in the sun.
Andy’s mom here. This guy has a lot of spunk. He is curious and very friendly. Everyone he meets says he is a very sweet dog. We went to a few different pet stores and several times to my office. Since it’s been icy and snowy we haven’t been to the dog park. We go on walks and he’s polite on the leash. He is kennel trained and goes in there when guided. But he does have a naughty streak. He loves to explore and see what he can get into. And you may have guessed, he is very interested in people food. He is learning to keep his distance, and is polite about it. But old habits die hard. A word of caution if you leave your toilet seats up or your bathroom doors open, one thing he learned here is that is not a water fountain in there. But he still needs to check every once in a while, just in case. He can be surprisingly stealthy and quick when the conditions are right. I have turned to find him suddenly licking clean dishes in the dishwasher or there’s his head in the fridge as I am putting away leftovers or groceries. He would be happiest in a home without younger dogs and children. And despite his claim above, he should not be with cats. Our cats are happy we can gate him up here with us. When he came into our home, he did have some health issues we have addressed. After proper veterinary care Andy has a clean bill of health, although He has some back pain that can be managed with daily medication. The vet thinks he is around 10-12. He really is a sweet dog. My co-workers are only half joking when they ask if he can be our office dog. He literally runs to to get love. I took a video but ignore my mini tumble at the end. If you want a super senior to snuggle, this is your man.
