Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lenny is a very special boy, looking for a very special family!
Lenny had a really rough start at life and almost didn't make it, but he's still here and trying to make the most out of everything life has to offer! Lenny and his brother George were brought into the emergency clinic as puppies (covered in urine, feces, and dirt) where it was first suspected that they had distemper. As it turns out, they were being kept in a makeshift outdoor pen (a playhouse), where they fell through the flooring and were dangling by their heads - resulting in strangulation and head trauma. It was unknown if they would survive, but thankfully they did! They also had a nasty case of parasites and puppy strangles (unrelated to actual strangulation).
Thankfully, both Lenny and his brother thrived and were both adopted. Sadly, a series of terribly unfortunate events brought Lenny back to us and he is now looking for that special forever home.
Lenny is full of life and loves everyone he meets. He is extremely sweet, rides well in a car, and has a wonderful disposition. He has a TON of personality and is guaranteed to make you laugh.
Likely as a residual effect of his early trauma, Lenny is considered "special needs"; physically, he is perfectly healthy though. Lenny does have some separation anxiety and must be crated when left alone, or else he will get into things he shouldn't (RIP couches and countless harnesses). He is also what we would consider ADHD and has a hard time focusing. He is very strong and still doesn't do too great on leash, but he IS getting better - due to the prior strangulation, we do not recommend a standard collar, electric fence, or ever using a prong collar (on any dog!). Lenny isn't the best at reading social cues from other dogs and can be overwhelming to some dogs, although it does seem like they just "know" that he's a special boy and most are very tolerant with him. We have been trying different supplements and medications to help Lenny mellow out and slow down some, but haven't found the right thing yet.
Lenny has boundless energy and would really thrive with an active family to take him running or hiking. He'd love a high energy canine companion too and a fenced in yard! He does like kids, but he can be jumpy sometimes, so we'd recommend kids be older so they don't accidentally get knocked over.
If you are interested in meeting Lenny, even if it's just to visit, please fill out an adoption application at www.rhar.org and we can set up a time to hang out with this lovable derp!! <3
NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
