Fudge and Mickey came to Toronto Cat Rescue with a large group of cats from a Quebec shelter. There was no indication they were friends or even knew each other. Fudge was sent to an affiliated TCR store to be fostered. Mickey went to a foster home.
Fudge was extremely unhappy in the store and was sent to a foster home. He was very timid and shy, hiding for the first few days, and refusing to come out of his “safe room” for two weeks. When he finally, cautiously came out he attempted to make friends with both the other fosters and the resident cats in his foster home. He was rebuffed by all. He would wander around his foster home calling out - seeming to be looking for someone/something.
Mickey, though happy in his foster home, got sick and needed to be moved. By a stroke of luck, he ended up in Fudge’s foster home!
Within minutes of Mickey’s arrival, Fudge was a different cat! He came out of hiding and parked himself in front of the door to Mickey’s room. He made repeated attempts to get in the room. Finally, after Mickey was feeling better, Mickey was released from his room to explore the home. Fudge was overjoyed! He chirped and rubbed up against Mickey. If Mickey was exploring, Fudge was following him; if Mickey was eating, Fudge was eating; if Mickey jumped up on the couch to be with his foster person, Fudge jumped up on the couch to be with Mickey. If Mickey stood still, Fudge would rub up against him and lick his face or head. The first time Fudge was seen walking with his tail held high was when he was following Mickey!
Mickey looks like he could be fighter. He’s a sturdy guy with a big head and thick neck. But he is the sweetest, gentlest boy! He occasionally gets irritated but mostly he puts up with all of Fudge’s attention allowing Fudge to not just lay beside him, but occasionally lie on top of him! And he has shown Fudge how to play. Fudge is so dependent on Mickey that they have been declared bonded. If you welcome these boys into your family, you will not be disappointed - they are quite the entertaining pair!
Note: Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $100 per cat, vs. $175 per cat.
