Here's what the humans have to say about me:
WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ONLY ADOPT WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA
Tank came to SHRF from a county shelter as his original owners were no longer able to care for him. This handsome Husky is a big teddy bear who will cuddle with you. He’s a big strong boy (hence his name) with dark brown eyes that just ooze mystery and intelligence.
This boy is wonderfully sweet, affectionate, playful and full of personality. He greets you and any other guests welcomingly when they come in the door. In his excitement he may jump up on you but that is just because he wants to give you a hug to say hello. Tank listens well when corrected and hasn't shown any destructive behavior in the home although has not been left alone for very long. He has no issue being crated and seems to be quite content to go into his crate when requested. It is likely that once settled in his home and understands the rules he will not need to be crated.
Tank appears to already have very good house manners and knows basic commands such as "sit", "shake", and "come". His foster mom is working on teaching him "down", not jumping on people as they come in the door, and other manners. Having previously lived in a home with children, we feel confident that a home with children of any age will be suitable. He is respectful of their size and won't jump on them.
In his first few days of being in his foster home, Tank has been quiet and has not showcased any vocals, but the shelter commented that occasionally he would sing in his kennel. Outside in the yard he doesn't like to listen as well as he does inside and will happily entertain himself in a game of "catch me if you can" with you. He also enjoys running in figure eights as fast as he can.
Tank walks well on lead, until something catches his eye such as a squirrel, cat, or bird ....then you get to feel his strength and if unprepared he may pull you down. Tank travels well in the car and if he has enough lead, he will stretch himself close enough so that he can rest his head on your shoulder. Otherwise, he will lie down and rest patiently until he's reached his destination.
Tank's main fault, which is likely because he doesn't know any better and can be overcome, is in his not-so-developed socialization skills with other dogs, specifically males. However, this can easily be worked on as long as introductions to other dogs are controlled and done properly. He does prefer to be the alpha to any other males that he meets and as long as the other male does not try to challenge him, Tank will get along fine. With female dogs he has no issues meeting, greeting, and other interaction. He is respectful of other dog's boundaries as well. He does not have any toy or food aggression with other dogs or humans. In fact, Tank waits patiently for his foster sister to finish playing with a toy and then will come along and check it out for himself. Tank is not cat friendly and has a very high prey drive, as most Huskies do. He is also an escape artist and will find the weak spot in the fence to get out and roam the streets, so we do not recommend leaving him unattended even in a fenced in yard.
Tank is healthy, Heartworm negative, housebroken, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped. If you are looking for an oversized lap dog, Tank is the one for you. Fill out an adoption application on our website, www.siberrescue.com, today.
