My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

11/2/2020 Christopher Update from his foster:

“His personality has really bloomed. After the first couple of weeks, he became more comfortable with my apartment and started spending less time on the cat tree. I had said before that he wasn't coming on to the furniture at all, but I can now say that the bed and couch are his second and third favorite places to nap (number one is his Original Scratch Lounge). As the weather has gotten colder, he's been spending more time in my lap or sleeping on/between my legs (he is currently nestled on my lap right now). Sometimes, when he is sleeping on his side, I will go over to him and start petting his head, and he will turn over onto his back and bury his head into my hand or rest his head in my cupped hand as if it's a pillow.

His favorite toys are ribbon and string toys-- I can always get him to play by waving one of these in front of him. He is so cute when he is in his crouching position and getting ready to pounce on one of these toys. When he starts getting zoomies, we will start playing hide and seek and taking turns hiding, seeking, and running around the apartment. He loves to hang out in the bathtub when I'm getting ready in the morning. Every time I come home after I've been out, he can detect my footsteps down the hall outside my apartment door and will start meowing even before I put my key into the lock. Then when I come in, he will go into purring mode and start bumping his head against everything (probably because he knows he will get fed soon, but I like to imagine that he's also happy to see me). Overall though, he is a pretty quiet cat and mostly trills during the day as his way of communicating with me, and he only meows when it's time for breakfast/dinner and when he hears me at the door. He has no behavioral issues; he doesn't chew or eat things that he isn't supposed to. He does still groom a lot, and when I offer him my hand, he will sometimes start thoroughly grooming my fingers one by one. I've been loving having him around and he really is such a sweet boy.”

When we first rescued Christopher, we noticed him over grooming his belly. Upon an exam at the vet, the doctor discovered a fractured canine that she assumed was causing him a lot of pain. This pain was likely causing him to act out by over-grooming. We set him up for a dental cleaning and extraction immediately. When he returned to PPAH last month, it was obvious that he was still over grooming. An exam and lab work showed that this behavior is not due to a medical issue. We don’t know why Christopher over grooms. Perhaps it’s because he’s bored, or maybe he hasn’t found a home in which is is completely comfortable. Maybe yours is the home that he can settle into and be happy for life.

Christopher had one bout of urinary crystals after returning to our care. It is the only time he has had this issue in his life. He was treated with medication and a special diet and improved rapidly, as anticipated. In an abundance of caution, he is still eating urinary prescription food. Whether or not he needs to stay on a prescription food would be up to his new adopter and his new vet.

Christopher’s ideal home would have no other pets and would have people that can dote on him and with whom he can interact and supervise for at least part of the day. Christopher is not a needy or noisy cat. He’s just a chubby boy looking for his forever home.
