My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Singing Blues is helping Yvette find a new home.

Yvette is a very special, cream colored Standard Poodle who is looking for a loving home. Yvette, or Vetter as her foster family calls her, came from a hoarding situation. In her early life, she was denied the love, care, and attention that any dog needs. While the other dogs from this situation quickly learned to enjoy their new lives, Yvette is still recovering from her past.

In early December, Yvette moved into her current foster home. She was started on an anti-anxiety medication, and she started attending formal obedience classes. Since that time, she has come a long way. She now interacts with her foster family and will accept the affection of strangers when she is on leash. She is still very timid, however, and she will need to be kept on leash whenever she is outside as she will not approach a person when she is outside. Her foster mother even keeps Yvette on a tie out when she is in the fence yard.

Yvette is really a very sweet dog. Despite her fear, she wants to be loved. She accepts affection from the three-year-old child in her foster home. She will sit patiently while he plays near her, talks to her, or gives her hugs and will even try to sit in his lap on the couch if she thinks he has food. There are times when the child is loud and clearly terrifies her, but she never holds a grudge against him. Yvette does well with the dogs in her foster home. There are times when she tries to play with the other dogs, and her foster sister is trying to teach her how to play like a “normal” dog. Having an outgoing, playful dog in her new home might help her continue to come out of her shell. On the other hand, Yvette seems to like being able to have all the attention when her people are sitting on the couch watching TV or relaxing in bed. When someone sits on Yvette’s couch, she will immediately move toward them and slap them with her paw to get attention. Her foster brother Sheltie taught her to chase kitties, so Yvette will need a home without cats.

Yvette is a very special girl, but she is going to need a special home. Her new family will need to be very patient and will need to have a good understanding of dog behavior. They will also need to be prepared to for the expense and commitment involved with continued training, medication, and grooming. We know that Yvette is worth the effort, and we are looking for a family that realizes it too.
