My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 4/13!

Kohl will be having Gold Bead Implants on 4/30.

Read some stories:

Update 4/1!

Not much to update, Kohl is still having weekly acupuncture and is progressing well. We should be scheduling the Gold Bead Implant soon. More to come!

Update 3/19!

Delightfully sweet and gentle, our Mr. Kohl is making slow and steady progress through the holistic choice of treatment. The initially noted muscle "weakness" and instability is improving with the weekly acupuncture, fresh cooked food diet additions and Chinese herb supplements. Whereas before, walking brought on a stiffness and discomfort, he now totally enjoys mild exercise and returns home to a peaceful snooze. His forays out into the backyard and interactions with other pack members appeared somewhat guarded/hesitant the first weeks of his stay. Currently, Kohl is the "bold explorer", seeking out those testy squirrels among the trees and actually running with Isabella, his "flirty female Harlequin friend". He really is special and craves lots of attention and love. The majority of his time inside he spends standing or lying on the top of a blanket box in the front bay window. Resting his chin on the sill, he contentedly watches the world outside. Perhaps a prerequisite for the adoptive home is provision of a, "Mr. Kohl perch". Without doubt, Kohl enriches and blesses all the lives his touches.

We have opted to treat Kohl in a more holistic manner rather than put him through a very painful and expensive surgery that does not have a black and white outcome. We thought it it would be best to start with a method that would be easier for him and potentially have the same benefit. Although we have opted not fur non-surgical treatment, treatment is still very expensive. Kohl has seen a regular vet, a neurologist, and is now seeing a holistic vet for weekly acupuncture, takes Chinese herbs daily, has had x-rays of his spine, and has a home cooked diet in conjunction with high quality kibble. Holistic doesn't necessarily mean less expensive. As of now, this treatment is working and if acupuncture continues to improve his quality of life and manage discomfort, we will move forward with Gold Bean Implants, a more permanent form of acupuncture.

Update 3/12!

Kohl has had his second acupuncture treatment, x-rays (which seem to show one disc out of place), and started on Chinese herbal medicine. Kohl is an amazing creature, so sweet and sensitive, a true Dane. His new family needs to understand that he may need continued care throughout his life, whether it be acupunture or some other form of management.

Update
Kohl is currently being evaluated for neurological problems. He will be seen by a neurologist on 2/23. As of right now, there is a possibility that he has Wobblers Syndrome. This sweet boy has a very special place in our hearts. Wobblers testing (MRI) and treatment is extremely expensive. Please stay tuned for more information and the results of his neuro visit.

Kohl is a 2 year old male black great dane that came to us as a result of a divorce and the economy. is a very sweet boy who gets along great with his foster doggies. He is very loving and will snuggle up to you and follow you everywhere you go looking for your attention and love. Kohl loves to give kisses and ride in the car. Kohl is still very young and doesnt know how big he is so he tends to bump into things so he will need a home with Large breed experience and a great sense of humor. Kohl prefers to go to a home with bigger kids because he is clumsy still. He would benefit from some obedience but knows most of his commands and listens intently, hovering on your every word! Kohl would like to find his new forever family so he can be their best friend ever.

This dog can be adopted to Maine and NH only.
