My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1/09/2009:

GYPSY ROSE LEE IS FINALLY STEPPING OUT

An elderly, disabled woman called her local animal control, and asked to have her six month old boxer picked up. This woman’s husband had recently been placed in a nursing home and she could no longer keep her.

Animal control contacted NBR to see if rescue would take this puppy so she would be spared from having to go into the shelter. We agreed, however, we had one problem; we had to get her that day and within a few hours or animal control would have to step in. We quickly made arrangements with NBR volunteers to have the puppy picked up. Our heartfelt thanks to “The Meunier Team“; Barry, Sharon, P’Nut and Winslow, for their quick response in helping Gypsy Rose Lee.

The conditions Gypsy Rose Lee was found in were appalling when our volunteers went to the house. Gypsy was sitting in a small cage, directly on the wire frame, with no bedding / padding inside and she had no toys. They were told if the weather was too cold she was caged inside, otherwise she was in a small pen outside with a doghouse.

There was not a water bowl, food or a toy in sight. Gypsy didn’t even have a collar or leash. As soon as our volunteer opened the cage door, Gypsy bolted and never looked back.

Below is a few words from Gypsy in her emergency foster home followed by an update from her foster dad:

“Hello everyone, my name is Gypsy Rose Lee and with the new year I have a new name, and I’m looking for a new family. Winslow and his family came and got me from where I was being held. I am a sweet girl and very loving once you burn a little energy off me ;-) otherwise, I love to play, run outside, or go on walks. You see, I was a “cage to cage” puppy. If I wasn’t in my indoor cage, I was in an outdoor cage. I didn’t have any toys or any food and water. I'm eating and drinking lots now though, and Winslow and Peanut gave me some of my very own toys to play with. The only thing missing is a family of my very own. You’ll have to be a special family because I’m a special girl. Since I was always in my tiny cage, I was never taught anything a little puppy needs to know. I promise to give you all the love you could ever want, just please be patient with me while you teach me the things I need to learn to be a really good girl. I know it’s in me, just teach me…we’re already working on sit and I did it twice!!! Hurry!!! I’m way too special to be available for too long. Kisses in advance… Gypsy”

“Sad, but true. Gypsy was in a tiny cage…not crate…cage. She slept on wire. If it was a decent day, she got to spend it outside in a bigger cage. This girl was so ravenous; she literally pounced on a box of biscuits when we were in the car heading home.
Surprisingly, she is a sweetheart, and very pretty. The first night she was here she had her first decent night of sleep in probably 3 months. Gypsy will need some training in all areas as she was only escorted from one cage to the other. She slept in her own urine most of the time.

Gypsy calmed down quite a bit today once she realized food, and water, was coming on a regular basis. I’m positive she will take to her lessons quickly as she seems to be really smart. Let’s set a new adoption time record with this cutie, she deserves it!”
Gypsy Rose Lee will be ready for adoption after she sees a veterinarian and is spayed.
