Here's what the humans have to say about me:
CHANCE is a 3.5-year-old neutered male fox red lab. Chance weighs 74 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
DESCRIPTION Chance loves to play and he loves to be with you. When he outside he will come up and lean into you to let you know you should pay attention to him or toss him a toy to play with. Likes to play with toys but doesn't always bring them back. He is not a couch potato , if he doesn't get enough exercise he will find something to do. He would like to have a home with an active family who will give him the love, training and interactive exercise he needs. He needs a physical fenced yard as he knows how to beat getting shocked on an underground fence. Good with other dogs, has been out with other LR dogs at the kennel. Knows sit, down and come. He needs some additional training. Hasn't been on lead much, is better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate trained. Reported as house trained, owners did not use a crate as he didn't need one. Chance was a stray to a shelter we work with last February we tried to get him but was adopted locally. His new owners both work and did not have the energy or time to give him the exercise he needed so brought him back to the shelter. Owners told me that he is house trained and had no problems while in the house. One of the reasons they gave him back was he was too smart, they lived on the Pamlico River and Chance loved to go swimming. He had access to the yard during the day and he would go to the edge of the property by the river , then jump up and down in front of the fence until he didn't hear the warning noise then go for a swim and visit the neighbors.
Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Needs physical fence
Chance is from a rural area and have not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound.) Adopters must travel to Maryland, or Virginia with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.
Lab Rescue LRCP has between 40 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia, and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates and locations are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.
If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. After you submit an application, you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.
An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required.
