For those of you that were so moved by Lola when I posted her plight, I want to give you an update on where we are with her recovery. I couldn't get a good read on Lola because she was so crippled with grief at our shelter. She stopped eating, she moaned and cried from her kennel and she rubbed her nose on the gate until it was raw. So my first priority was getting her out of the shelter and settled back into a home environment. I got many calls for assistance but decided on a couple that is very experienced with fostering and they came and picked Lola up. Unfortunately, this is not going to work in their home because of several circumstances but we have learned great deal more about this sweet dog and what her needs are going to be to become the great dog she was meant to be. Lola was very excited to be back in a home and she loved running freely in the backyard. She wants so badly to play but we have found she is much energetic for a 4 year old. A small child cannot stand up against the attention and kisses that Lola wants so badly to give.
She is ABSOLUTELY not aggressive in any way with children, she just doesn't know how to control her affections and she is a pretty good size dog.
She felt very insecure with the other dogs in their home and there was a great deal of growling on her part. They felt it was best to keep the dogs separated for everyone's sake, especially their children in the home. But when a volunteer walked Lola in the neighborhood, she was approached by several dogs and she responded with a wagging tail and no growling. So this tells us, she would feel more secure if she was the only dog in a household but she would also do well playing with dogs in a less confined area, such as a dog park. So I am sad to say Lola is coming back to us this morning but now I know what we need to look for in another foster home for her so we can help her along her way to a forever home. Knowing all of this about Lola, if you think you have the right home situation and you have the time and desire to help her, please call me at 662-519-1700.
We are not going to give up on this beautiful dog. She is 11 months old. She doesn't deserve to live out out her life in our shelter just because she got a rocky start in her young life. Lola is at the Tunica Humane Society in Tunica, Mississippi if you are interested in more information.
Another post on Lola –
Lola came back to us early this morning and now we feel like we know her much better than before, thanks to the short time she spent with her foster family. I believe with all of my heart that God has His Hand on our shelter everyday. He constantly gives us the guidance we need to help these animals along their way. Duke was just returned to us yesterday b...ut something about him told us he would be the tool to help us cross that bridge with Lola, allowing her the freedom to interact with another dog. She has been deprived of that up until now. Duke has a tolerance about him that not all dogs have and we saw that very soon after he arrived. Lola is high energy. She packs a powerful punch. She makes alot of noise and does a lot of play growling but these two dogs had a ball. It could not have gone better for Lola's first time to totally express herself. She needs work but she is going to be ok.....
If you are interested in adopting this dog please give us a call.
We know each of the animals entrusted to our care by name and we will be happy to tell you all about the personality and little quirks that make each animal so loved. Our adoption fee for a dog is $100 and that covers all shots and vetting and spay/neuter. Our animals are fully vetted before we send them off to their new family.
