Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Miss Savannah is a true Southern Belle.. She arrived to us escorted all the way by her devoted Foster Mom.. who felt she had to make sure Savannah would settle in easily with us.. and sure enough.. we greeted Savannah as we do with all new arrivals.. quietly.. allowing them to set the timing and style .. we hung out at her crate on the van.. she sniffed and wagged her tail.. we opened the door and gently slipped the lead on her .. opened the door fully and out she came.. happy to say hello to her new friends!! Savannah fit right in as if she were a LOVE DOGS doggie all along!
Savannah' foster Mom did a great job with her because when Savannah first arrived to her she was shy and a little nervous.. She took to all of us like we were old friends.. She wasnt even taken back by the big scary camera! Nope she looked right up at it and smiled!
Savannah is a mix of heavens knows what!! Shes about 40 lbs.. lean and easy to walk on a leash.. her eyes are sweet and soft.. shes not all muscle bound like a Pit Bulls ..she listens well.. she enjoys being handled and loved on & is affectionate in return.. & she absolutely loved touring around the farm.. the first time she spotted one of the horses she just froze .. and watched.. no antics.. no hysteria.. no fear.. just curious and still attentive to her handler..
UPDATE: Savannah showed some defensive fear around new people.. she surprised us by snapping at a visitor... we are going to explore that "nerve" and until we fully understand it we are going to hang on to Savannah.... When we feel more confident about what triggers Savannah and can accurately predict how she will react we will make her available for adoption. She will need an experienced home.. one that really understands energy and body language. Stay tuned for progress reports. We are always learning here at LOVE DOGS.. We want to know what makes each dog tick!
UPDATE: Savannah has grown and bonded with so many of us here at Love Dogs. We have slowly but surely peeled back her layers trying to discover what she loves, what makes her thrive and what is it exactly about new people and certain situations that makes her wary... Well.. she loves to swim in the lake, to go on hikes, to play around with her favorite and most trusted staff member Ariana, scent detection training, clicker training and romping around with her buddy Gus and Brownie. In finding all of these activities that makes her HAPPY we have been able to incorporate little by little the things that make her uncomfortable. In turn working to desensitize, counter condition and widen her circle of trusted people. Check out the video below to see Savannah in all her glory!
