Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello! My name is Gus and I’m 12 years old. Now if you let that number stop you from reading more about me, you’re an older fool than I am. You know that saying, “Age is just a number”? I don’t believe that. I believe that age is an attitude. My attitude is that every day is another opportunity to be happy and make everyone I meet happy. I believe my life purpose is to be a friendly companion and playmate to humans of all ages and to other dogs. I show that by greeting all people and dogs with a wagging tail and an offer of kisses. One of my favorite activities is a good game of “chase.” I love to do this with another dog, but the other dachshund in my foster home won’t play with me. That’s okay because my foster family will play chase with me. I also love to go for brisk walks. It helps me stay in great shape. My foster mom says I would probably go for ten walks a day if I could. I don’t play with toys much, but probably would if I could play with another dog. Did I say that I like to go for a ride in the car? It’s especially fun to ride with my human foster sisters back and forth to school and meet all their friends. They let me sit on their laps and pet me, which is wonderful. I heard my foster mom say that I would be a good therapy dog. When it’s time to relax on your favorite couch or chair, I’ll be your best snuggle pal. The humans here say that I have very soft, thick fur and that makes me even more huggable. A few more details – I’m fully vetted, up-to-date on shots, Heartworm negative and just had a dental treatment. I do respond to some commands and I’m learning new tricks in my foster home. I have so much love and many more years to give to a forever home. Call or email my foster home for more details and fill out an adoption application. My adoption fee is $150, but I hear that my smile, kisses and hugs are priceless.
Gus is in a foster home in Scotch Plains, NJ. For more information about him, please contact his foster Mom, Donna, at dgerhauser@verizon.net or 908-654-5365.
