My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET Rocky!

Rocky is an 8 ½ year old, 13 pound, red short hair Dachshund. Rocky is a laid back Doxie who likes to be with his people. He is leash trained, crate trained, and house broken. He loves belly rubs, meal times, car rides, walks, toys, and burrowing under blankets. He loves toys he can de-squeak and de-stuff! He is completely placid when getting his nails trimmed, which makes the task a breeze. He is a typical Dachshund with a loving heart and a big personality. He is very protective of his people and his territory. A ringing doorbell or UPS truck winds him up. Rocky needs time to adjust to friends and family he’s not used to and reassurance that all is well. Rocky has skin dryness and needs routine shampooing with medicated shampoo and bag balm treatments. Rocky is resigned but not keen on bath time, but he LOVES his “massage” times. He has a minor limp due to a past spinal injury which is almost unnoticeable. He gets around without difficulty, and can move with amazing speed when he wants to. Rocky is currently in foster with three other small dogs, and gets along with them in his own uniquely dignified fashion. Rocky will thrive in a calm household with a stay-at-home owner. He loves to be outside, and a doggy door which allows him access to a secure backyard would be ideal. He looks like a senior statesman, and is a very mellow guy (when no one’s knocking on the door!) but there’s plenty of get-up-and-go in this pup. He will make the right owner a wonderful and loyal companion!

Rocky will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.

Like all Dachshunds, Rocky is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Rocky needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give Rocky a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
