Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Hero" is a handsome 6-yo neutered male GSD who is very playful, loyal and friendly. Hero is very attached to his male owner, and surely will become attached to his next owner(s) in a short time. He is great with children of all ages and presently lives with kids 11, 13 & 17 yrs old.
Hero is great with other dogs. He presently lives with a female Pit Bull who he gets along very well with. He was perfect with several other GSDs he met at GSRSV's rescue ranch. (See elsewhere on this page for a video of Hero and those dogs.)
On the other hand, Hero is not so good w/ cats and livestock, so no critter-farm home for Hero.
Hero is very much a house dog--he likes being inside with his people. His owners keep him inside (with their other dog) uncrated for approx 8 hrs/day with no problems. They do have to keep the counters free of food, however, as Hero likes to counter-surf.
Hero is very responsive to basic commands such as "sit", "come" and "out", even though he has not received any formal obedience training. He does tend to pull on leash during walks, but not so strongly that it poses a problem.
Hero loves to go for car rides, but predictably becomes car-sick after about 20 minutes. This is unusual for a GSD Hero's age--especially one who enjoys car rides. Motion-sickness medication could very well help Hero to overcome his car-sickness.
Hero loves to swim and play in water. He also loves to play fetch, though he's better at getting the ball than releasing it (typical GSD trait).
Hero's owners adopted him from the Sacramento SPCA in November 2014. Though Hero is an integral part of their family, they are seeking a new home for him because he recently nipped at their horse, attacked their pig and, along with their other dog, killed their cat. (He had been OK with the cat until the incident.)
GSRSV has evaluated Hero and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Hero through its adoption program while his owners continue to care for him.
Hero is located in Sheridan (near Wheatland, along Hwy 65). His adoption fee is $210.
